This past Saturday, we had the pleasure of hosting Brooklyn Job Corps Culinary training program participants at the SCK! They learned about our mission, crafted delicious meals, and embraced the principles of a sustainable and equitable food system. Huge thanks to our amazing partners at Agape Food Rescue and our amazing Culinary Director Ken Baker and Chef Arturo! 🌱🍽️ #community #nycfood #sustainability

✨ Last night was a blast at our very first Rethink Supper Club! A huge thank you to our amazing culinary team led by our Events Chef, Maggie L., our Creative Lead, Isabella Mezzettone and our incredible guest chef, Calvin Hwang, from Figure Eight, along with his fantastic team: Emmeline, Grace, Lindsay, Guy, and Janice. 🫶🏻 Special thanks to our ceo and founder, Matt Jozwiak for always being there, and to our Culinary Director, Ken Baker for his unwavering support, and a special shoutout to Fortune Fish & Gourmet and Matthew Sadownick for their generous donation of Watermark Seafood’s monkfish and salmon 🐟 And, of course, a big thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday and believes in our work 💚 We had an unforgettable evening filled with delicious dishes made from donations and love. The menu included salmon crudo, smoky smashed eggplant with grilled bread, monkfish with heirloom grits and XO, a seafood boil with all the fixings, and Chef Maggie’s world-famous berry cobbler. We can’t wait for the next one! Stay tuned! 🙌 #SupperClub #Sustainable #NYCfood #NYCrestaurants #nonprofit

Rethink Food is all about bridging gaps and creating stronger connections within our food system. Tonight marked the launch of the first Rethink Supper Club, featuring the incredible Chef Calvin (@rightplace_hwangtime) from @figureeightnyc. The food was outstanding, the sense of community was heartwarming-like Thanksgiving in the summertime! Connecting with founder and CEO Matt Jozwiak and Culinary Director Ken Baker gave me a deeper understanding of the ambitious scope of their mission. I'm proud that we were able to support the event by supplying @watermarkseafood monkfish and salmon. We're excited to be a partner and look forward to the future possibilities! We are heartbroken to share the passing of Barbara Ellison Miller, a beloved partner of Rethink Food. Over the past decade, Barbara built Salem United Methodist Church’s food program from the ground up, including a pantry and hot meal program. #SUMC was one of our first community partners during the early weeks of the pandemic, having delivered over 800,000 meals to the #Harlem community in partnership with 11 restaurants since 2020. Barbara recently led SUMC’s participation in a pilot program with Just Salad exploring ways to increase the reach and impact of our collective work. Those who had the privilege of meeting Barbara know she was a light of life, bringing warmth, humor, and creativity to all of her interactions. Her dedication to the Harlem community was unwavering. Barbara’s legacy will continue to inspire us all. 💔 #foodinsecurity #foodaccess #nycfood

Last week, my good friends Daniel, Susana and I brought together incredible leaders from across the New York food access scene at Rethink Food's Sustainable Commissary Kitchen in Greenwich Village. Over 30 folks from food nonprofits, foundations, city agencies and mission-driven corporates hung out, shared challenges they're facing and brainstormed opportunities to collaborate. In many ways, this was a historic night. Our organizations and our leaders don't come together like this. More of this is needed in the future. Forums for leaders on the frontlines of the food access fight to find common ground and to opt for collaboration instead of competition. I can't wait for the next event we put on and to continue championing the incredible work these different orgs, companies and agencies are doing for communities in need across our city. Our Sustainable Community Kitchen is a place for community and change, and we were truly honored to bring all these wonderful leaders together on the first Food Access Collabroative Dinner to discuss the future of food. 💚
Real change in NYC’s food system won’t happen in silos. It will happen when leaders unite. Last week, I had the honor of co-hosting the inaugural Food Access Collaborative dinner, where leaders from across sectors came together to engage in dialogue and explore collaborative solutions. ✨ The conversations were rich. ✨ The connections were meaningful. ✨ The collaborative spirit was palpable. Special thanks to Cole Riley, Susana Camarena, and Rethink Food for making it all possible, and to Ruvan Wijesooriya for capturing the moments 📸! The future of food access depends on all of us coming together, and I'm excited about what's to come! #FoodAccess #Leadership #CommunityImpact #Collaboration
