Big news for marijuana businesses. The U.S. is moving towards reclassifying marijuana from a Schedule I to a Schedule III drug. This significant shift could open up numerous opportunities for research and tax benefits. We were proud to sponsor the City Kids Boston Annual Gala. Anthony McGuinness , James Heffernan and Yue (Yana) Zheng were on hand as the community came together to raise a record-breaking $200,000 for underprivileged children. Dr. Sanjiv Chopra's keynote was a powerful reminder of why this work is so important. #CityKidsGala

We're proud to have played a role in helping Paraclete with this sale, which paves the way for much-needed affordable housing in South Boston.
For the last several years, when I’m not working, or busy being a parent, I’ve served on the board of directors of Paraclete Inc., and the last few years have been quite a ride. Paraclete ran an after school educational enrichment program for kids in South Boston. When Covid hit, we went remote for several months, and our dedicated staff of AmeriCorps volunteers worked tirelessly in uncertain times. Ultimately, challenges with fundraising and the cost of maintaining the 100 year old building that housed our program became insurmountable, and the Paraclete board made the difficult decision to stop operations at the end of 2020. The Paraclete board had to decide what comes next. After a lot of hard work as a board, we negotiated a deal to sell our building – the former St. Augustine’s Church convent – to the South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation. Our sale came with conditions: the building, which is part of the history of that neighborhood, had to be preserved and used for affordable housing for seniors. After two years of permitting, the sale of the building closed recently. South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation will renovate the building to create 35 affordable units, and Paraclete will use the sale proceeds to provide scholarships for kids in Boston to pursue educational opportunities. It took a lot of work to get here, and I’m grateful to the Paraclete board for its patience and commitment during this challenging period, and also to the South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation, who I’m confidant will be good stewards of this building. This will be a win-win for Paraclete and our neighborhood. We could not have gotten to this point without the pro bono legal services provided by a dedicated team of Ropes & Gray LLP attorneys, Anne Ogilby, Elizabeth Johnson, and Arielle Sigel who represented us in our petition to the Supreme Judicial Court to sell our building to another nonprofit organization, and Joseph Wang at Rich May, P.C., who represented us in negotiating the purchase and sale contract. We will always be grateful for their tremendous work and steady counsel.
