Last week I attended the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) T&D Conference in Anaheim, CA and it was a rewarding experience. Compared to my first time at the event two years ago, this time I had a deeper understanding of our industry and a renewed sense of excitement to explore what's out there. Having worked directly on some of the Richards Manufacturing Company products that were showcased, it was really satisfying to see them in action during demos by our incredible sales team. We had a fantastic time presenting at Clark Public Utilities this week and introducing the innovative Richards Manufacturing Company 600A CSH elbows! A sincere shoutout to Clark PUD for the chance to share insights, and kudos to @David Brehmer of Richards Manufacturing Company for his outstanding presentation skills!

We recently presented at EPRI's IncubateEnergy Labs Demo Day in Vancouver to share the results of a pilot project to test the use of Unique IDs and Smart Tags with Alabama Power Company, a Southern Company, Southwire Company, and Richards Manufacturing Company. We worked together with the manufacturers to generate Unique IDs based on an emerging specification being developed through an IEEE Industry Connections program called SCATE (Supply Chain and Asset Traceability for Electric). The Unique IDs were applied to the assets with a QR code. Alabama Power field crews scanned the QR code and mapped the cable and splices as they were being installed. The Unique ID was then decoded and used to create a digital as-built that was automatically populated with all of the attribute data (serial number, ratings, dimensions, materials, etc.). Special thanks to Shane Powell, PE, Tara Parker, Edwin Marquez, and Brett Hall for making this happen.
