We were very honored to receive the Annual Employer Partnership Award from the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind yesterday. Over the years, Riverside has hired many qualified interns and employees from the blind community, and they are valuable members of the Riverside team. We are pleased that our supportive and inclusive work community has been recognized publicly, and we thank the commission for both this recognition and for working towards a more inclusive society. About us
A community-based non-profit organization serving more than 40,000 people a year in Massachusetts, Riverside Community Care offers a wide range of mental healthcare, developmental and brain injury services, early childhood and youth programs, addiction treatment, trauma response, and more. And our digital learning platforms extend our reach to more than one million people around the globe, providing tools for education, prevention, and crisis management. We are dedicated to: Children, youth, and families needing mental healthcare, early intervention services, family support, and care coordination services. Individuals with mental health needs seeking counseling and/or medication, emergency psychiatric services, employment, and housing support. Those with developmental disabilities, brain injury, or autism, needing residential services, employment assistance, or support services. Families and children who have experienced domestic violence. Schools, colleges, workplaces, and communities seeking to address mental health issues, substance use, and suicide risk. Organizations and communities facing the aftermath of a tragic event such as a teen suicide or natural disaster. We partner with local hospitals and physicians, and work with most insurers and MassHealth in support of individual and collective goals. Our staff are remarkable, compassionate people who are proud of the work they do to improve people’s lives and are up for any challenge. You can count on Riverside when you or someone you know needs help. We take your trust seriously and work hard to make a difference by delivering integrated, quality care.

Rebecca Mirick (Research Consultant to Riverside Trauma Center and MindWise Innovations), Jim McCauley (Associate Director of Riverside Trauma Center), and Joanna Bridger (Former Trauma Center Clinical Director and a member of our Critical Incident Team) recently published a pivotal article, “Trauma-Informed Practice with Individuals with Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors,” in the Clinical Social Work Journal emphasizing the importance of trauma-informed practices when treating individuals with suicidal thoughts and behaviors. The article explores the strong relationship between trauma and suicidality while highlighting the dearth of information on how a trauma-informed approach is applied to work with this population. Trauma-informed practices consist of compassionate, collaborative care grounded in the recognition of trauma's widespread impact and the long-term effects of traumatic stress, and the article underscores the need for trauma-informed care as a universal precaution that can prevent harm and promote healing for all. Riverside clinician Stay-Ann Hylton was recently a featured presenter at the International Association of Special Education (IASE) 18th Biennial Conference in the Czech Republic, where Stay-Ann showcased Riverside's Behavioral Treatment Services program to delegates from over 30 countries. In addition to presenting, Stacy-Ann attended numerous educational sessions and learned new strategies and techniques to share with the Riverside team. She also visited a community-based residence and vocational setting for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, where she gained valuable firsthand experience and swapped fresh perspectives on current behavioral healthcare issues with international providers. What a great experience! #developmentaldisabilities #intellectualdisabilities #IASE

“I’ve never found a situation that satisfies me like this one … and that’s from the bottom of my heart. I especially enjoy being able to spend time with my kids as I give to the community.” – Stella Becoming a Shared Living Provider with Riverside transformed the lives of Stella, her family, and individuals who became part of her family. Opening your home and your heart to an adult with a developmental disability, autism, or acquired brain injury can enrich your life, too. Shared Living Providers receive a tax-free stipend, ongoing Riverside support, and a renewed sense of purpose.
