Ideas that aim for the head.

About us

We're picking a rock fight with the outdoors...not the nature part, the bullshit part. Industry norms, dumb ideas, and stuff that just don’t make no sense part. You have found yourself in the middle of America’s new home for Outdoor-related info, news, and conjecture. We take sides, suss it out, and land ‘em when we can. Our beef is with convention. And if that’s a problem for you, speak the hell up! But you better come armed with truth, loaded with fact, and filled with opinion. And most importantly, ready for a good time. Cause like we said, it’s a rock fight. Bring it! Rock Fight...ideas that aim for the head.

In a move that has sent ripples through both the running and animal rights communities, Rabbit, the apparel company known for its plush comfort and performance running apparel, has found itself at the center of an unexpected controversy with the launch of its first running shoe, the Dream Chaser. The shoe, initially praised for its innovative Flowstate Foam midsole and recycled polyester upper, has become embroiled in allegations that it incorporates actual rabbit feet as a performance-enhancing "lucky charm." While Rabbit vehemently denies these claims, the rumor has sparked a heated debate about the ethics of performance gear and the unintended consequences of marketing strategies. "Our commitment to 'rabbit-inspired performance' is purely metaphorical," insisted Rabbit's Chief Innovation Officer, Dr. Jessica Bunnay. "Any resemblance to actual lagomorph anatomy is purely coincidental. Frankly, they’re just drawn that way.” Click the link in the comments for the full article.

BREAKING NEWS! Outdoor Industry Organization Adds Second June to Calendar RENO, NV — In a groundbreaking move, the Outdoor Industry Organization  (OIO) announced today the addition of a second June to the calendar. This unprecedented change is intended to accommodate the growing number of outdoor-related trade shows that traditionally take place during this month.   "June has always been the cornerstone for our industry," said OIO President Jill Smith. "By adding a second June, or Double June, we can ensure that every event gets the attention it deserves without forcing retailers and manufacturers to choose between them.”   Retailers are enthusiastic about the change. "I’ve always felt like I needed to clone myself to attend all the important shows in June," said John Buyer, owner of Mountain Gear. "Now, with two Junes, I can properly allocate time to each event, such as not attending early morning speaking events.”   Industry executives are equally supportive. "This decision reflects our industry's commitment to growth and innovation," remarked Jane Black, CEO of Adventure Co. "Having a second June allows for more networking, product launches, and educational opportunities, and bulk discounts on pallets and shipping expenses.” However, not everyone is thrilled with changes. The Gregorian monks, the historical custodians of the calendar, have expressed their displeasure. Brother Anselm, a spokesperson for the monastic community, voiced their concerns. "The calendar is a sacred construct, perfected over centuries. Adding an extra month disrupts the natural order and trivializes our heritage." BREAKING NEWS! Spontaneous Open Toe Sandal Committee Convenes on Show Floor of Grassroots Connect RENO, NV– Initial reports indicate that an Open Toe Sandal Committee has spontaneously convened near the food aisle at the Grassroots Connect trade show currently taking place at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Traditionally, such gatherings occur when the gravitational pull of sandals brands like Chaco, @Teva, BIRKENSTOCK, and Bedrock Sandals get too close together, pulling wearers into a quorum. Due to the overwhelming presence of neutral, dark colors, these proceedings are rarely captured on camera. This is a developing story. Link in comments. #outdoorindustry #tradeshow #sandals

Everyone dog walker (or neighborhood walker or hike walker or trail walker or mall walker… ok maybe not) has seen a Zeke before. Or are you a Zeke? No judgment here. Had a hand in creating this one and it was a blast. Can’t wait to make more toys!

Hey everybody! I'd like to introduce you to.... Zeke, The Off Leash Dog Walker! Long before you see him, you’ll know Zeke’s on the trail. How? Because his unleashed dogs are always running five minutes ahead. Zeke, The Off Leash Dog Walker is your above-it-all neighborhood dog enthusiast. Posted signs have no power against his force of will and well-meaning facade. He’s not out to hurt anyone, he just doesn't think those leash laws were meant for his dogs, were they? Couldn’t be! Because his dog’s are no ordinary canines. They respond to his every command, greet every dog with grace, and would never burrow their noses into the crotches of strangers. And perish the thought they’ll poop on trail.  Zeke trained them to bag their own*. These dogs can’t be leashed! It just wouldn’t be right. It’s not that Zeke doesn’t care. He cares a lot about a lot of things. He just doesn’t care about your enjoyment. Read all about Zeke, The Off Leash Dog Walker and every Rock Fight Action Figure at the link in comments. When Oboz Footwear President Amy Beck reached out and offered to send Justin Housman and I some boots to review for Gear & Beer I was worried because I'm not a boot or hiking shoe guy. I like hiking in trail runners and have for a long time. So my concern was that Amy was going to send something that wouldn't be a match for me. And you know what? Turns out I was right. The Katabatic Wind Low is not my kind of shoe. But damn if it isn't awesome and something for the entire industry to learn from. On today's Gear & Beer (currently part of THE ROCK FIGHT but soon to be its own thing) Justin and I go deep on why the Katabatic Wind Low is a unicorn in the hiking shoe space and needs to be celebrated. This a seriously dope shoe and even if it's not for me, people need to pay attention to it. Because there is a lot that Obōz's competitors can learn by making actual low cut hiking shoes and not just a brown or grey overly built sneakers. And keeping the Montana theme going, we then pair the Katabatic's with Montucky Cold Snacks! A couple of Bozeman classics and a truly perfect post activity pairing. Listen to this episode in the comments or wherever you listen to your pods.
