Educate. Advocate. End Abuse
About us
No one should be abused or assaulted, ever. Safe Berks provides safe haven and support to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Our advocacy and education programs increase awareness of oppression and promote the prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault. Our services include a Safe House for up to 50 adults and children who are in danger, a 24-hour Hotline, trauma-informed counseling, legal services and advocacy, and educational programs. We also offer transitional housing for up to 25 people. Our services are free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our services are offered in English and Spanish, and we will arrange translation for any other language needed. Safe Berks served more than 4,000 clients in the last fiscal year. Our Safe House provided a haven to more than 800 people in the last fiscal year, including 400 children. Anyone in danger can call our 24-hour Hotline, 844-789-SAFE, or text SAFE BERKS to 20121. We were founded in 1976 as Berks Women in Crisis. In 2016, as we celebrated our 40th anniversary, we announced our new name: Safe Berks We wanted to make it very clear that we serve all individuals affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. Our name is also our goal. We want to create a safe community; we want to build a Safe Berks. To create a Safe Berks, we need every member of our community to work together and speak out against abuse. Individuals and community groups are welcome to contact Safe Berks to donate, volunteer, learn more about our work, and help us end abuse. For more information, email [email protected], call 610-373-1206, or visit our website at www.SafeBerks.org. We are very grateful to all our generous donors and dedicated volunteers. Together we can build a Safe Berks!

Victims and their children need Gov. Shapiro, Sen. Pittman, Rep. Bradford, Sen. Martin, and Rep. Harris to get the $8 million increase in funding for domestic violence services over the finish line. In these final moments, victims and their children cannot be used as bargaining chips. Investing in DV services will save lives. Failing to do so will cost far more than the $8 million investment we are asking for #RealCostofDV

Although the month of April is #SAAM, the week of April 21 - 27 is National Crime Victims' Rights Week. The 2024 theme is - How would you help? Options, services, and hope for crime survivors. The 2024 theme asks all of us—friends, family members, neighbors, colleagues, community leaders, victim service providers, criminal justice practitioners, and health professionals—how we can help crime victims. Are you prepared if someone confides in you about a victimization? Is your organization victim-centered and trauma-informed? Are you familiar with the services available in your community?
