About us
Safety-Kleen is a leading environmental services company engaged in used oil recycling and refining (EcoPower brand), parts cleaning and other responsible environmental solutions. We have approximately 4,300 employees serving approximately 270,000 customer locations in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. With 45 years of experience, we provide our customers with the protection they need for all of their environmental waste issues. We do this by offering a broad set of product and service choices, through an employee network of the most knowledgeable and experienced people in the industry. Safety-Kleen provides comprehensive environmentally-responsible products and services that keep North American businesses in balance with the environment, with a focus on closed-loop recycling processes. As part of these efforts, we offer EcoPower engine oil. As the largest collector and refiner of reclaimed engine oil in North America, we start by reclaiming over 200 million gallons of used oil from over 115,000 locations. That oil is refined using a process that requires 85% less energy than conventional oil. The result is an oil that exceeds all North American standards for engine protection. By using EcoPower and the oil-recovery services of Safety-Kleen, you can protect your vehicles and the environment in a sustainable way. We are excited to support Castrol’s official launch of its MoreCircular program at the #ACTexpo in Las Vegas this week. Clean Harbors, through its Safety-Kleen subsidiary, is collaborating with Castrol on this nationwide offering. The end-to-end program begins with the collection of used oil from Castrol’s business customers by Safety-Kleen, which are then re-refined into a base oil at Safety-Kleen’s network of re-refineries. Castrol then integrates the re-refined base oil into premium lubricants with a lower carbon footprint that it delivers to customers under its MoreCircular program. The closed-loop offering represents a commitment by Castrol, with the support of Safety-Kleen, to help its customers decarbonize their operations and meet their sustainable goals. For a company focused on sustainability and environmental protection, every day is #EarthDay at Clean Harbors. To mark the official holiday, our teams from coast to coast made meaningful contributions to their local neighborhoods, including co-sponsoring the largest educational Earth Day event in Georgia, tree plantings in Baltimore and San Diego, and cleaning up multiple sites south of Boston. These were just a few of the many activities our team members enjoyed, and we encourage everyone to do their part – large or small – this Earth Day to help make the world a greener place for future generations! #sustainABILITY

As North America’s largest collector of used motor oil, partnering with Castrol on MoreCircular is a natural fit for us. The Castrol product offering further validates our re-refined base oil as a key component in lower carbon footprint lubricants. We’re thrilled to work with Castrol customers to collect their used oil as part of a program that supplies premium business lubricants that have sustainability at their core.

Castrol to launch MoreCircular in the US Today I am very excited and proud to announce the launch of Castrol MoreCircular for business, developed in partnership with Safety-Kleen. Castrol MoreCircular is our first US-wide program designed to reduce the carbon footprint of lubricants by creating a more circular value chain. The new program combines Castrol’s cutting-edge technology with Safety-Kleen’s wide geographic reach and expertise in collecting and re-refining used oil. Castrol MoreCircular encompasses the entire process of collecting used oil from business customers, re-refining it and integrating re-refined base oil into premium lubricants for supply to businesses. Successful customer trials demonstrate that our lower carbon footprint lubricants show the same performance as the versions containing virgin base oil. The Castrol MoreCircular program will go live on May 20th at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in Las Vegas. In 2021, Clean Harbors began a partnership with Purdue Global to enhance its tuition reimbursement program, offering employees a cost-effective way to achieve their career goals while providing the flexibility needed to balance work, family and school. The program, which helps employees obtain higher education degrees in a variety of fields, yielded a dozen grads or soon-to-be grads in the past year. One of those employees is Safety-Kleen Senior Branch Administrator Jurecka Womack, who obtained her Bachelor of Science degree. We applaud Jurecka and all our grads for their commitment to furthering their careers with Clean Harbors!
