  • Rhythms of Summer: Discovering Music at Camp Summer camp at the Freer Forte Music School was held at Anaheim Red Shield June 24-28. Music camp offers numerous benefits for children, making it a valuable and enriching experience. Beyond learning musical skills and techniques, it provides a nurturing environment where kids can explore creativity, build confidence, and develop important social skills. There were 45 students in attendance, with an equal number on the waiting list. Students were able to choose from different instruments to study for the week, and on the last day they performed what they had learned for their parents. Instruments included guitar, drums, piano, and singing. There was even an art class where students learned about different art techniques and concepts and made art journals using mixed media.

  • Easy, easy recipes for your 4th of July Watermelon, feta, and mint salad - Refreshing and light Jane Yi shares one of her favorite summer recipes. You need: ·       6 cups cubed watermelon, ·       1/2 red onion, chopped (optional) ·       1/2 cup feta cheese ·       1/3 cup fresh mint leaves, chopped Combine ingredients in a cooled bowl. Dress with either a balsamic glaze or a  or a mix of equal parts lime juice, honey, and olive oil. For dessert: Heavenly angel food cake Not a baker? Not a problem. Lynn shares this scrumptious dessert. ·       1 angel food cake – store bought or made from a mix. ·       1 c. heavy whipping cream ·       2-4 tbsp confectioners’ sugar depending on how sweet you want ·       1-2 tsp pure vanilla ·       Strawberries (sliced) and blueberries Before you get started, make sure to chill the bowl and beaters in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes. This increases volume. Put the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract into your chilled mixing bowl. Begin mixing on low speed. (Be careful: Start on high and you may have a new whipped cream ceiling.) Once the mixture starts to increase a little in volume, turn your mixer up to medium-high speed and continue mixing until the mixture reaches stiff peaks. In other words, when you lift the beaters out of the bowl the whipped cream stands up and doesn’t fold over. Cover cake with whipped cream, top with berries and enjoy. Here’s to a successful celebration! Wishing you a very happy 4th of July!

  • God Has a Plan About three years ago, God sent Pastor Harvey Marquez to The Salvation Army Anaheim Emergency Shelter. His energy spreads his faith to anyone within sight or hearing distance. You can’t help but feel you are safe and in God’s presence when you see or speak to him. He came from private industry as an abuse counselor and was without a job. When he was hired by The Salvation Army Orange County, he says his and his wife’s prayers were answered. Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not human masters.”
