Street sweeps do not prevent or end homelessness, in fact they cause individual and community harm to hundreds and thousands of San Franciscans weekly. Street Sweeps are bad for public health, perpetuating the issue of homelessness itself, traumatizing, injuring and killing extremely vulnerable community members - based on political opinion rather than scientific research. It’s a violation of basic human rights. Community and science-based solutions are what San Francisco needs, not Sweeps.   📢 Join us in the fight for #SolutionsNotSweeps! Share why housing is better than sweeps.

During #TransHistoryMonth, we are embracing the celebration of trans joy in all its forms. Our collective trans joy is rooted in honoring our ongoing struggle for liberation and uplifting our joy through it all. In partnership with our beautiful friends at The Transgender District, a few of our lovely trans femme community members who attended our Fresh Starts: On the Road event at the Transgender District shared what trans joy means for them. 🏳️⚧️

[UPDATE 7/30/24: Yoga with Ki is canceled today. Thank you for your understanding. Please join us and Ki next month, 8/27, for their next yoga offering.] On #InternationalSelfCareDay, let's remember that self-care includes community care and the ongoing need to support community members in accessing free and intentional wellbeing programs, such as the Center's expansive Queer & Well offerings for and by LGBTQ+ folks. “The Queer & Well program was created in response to a clear need within our community. Coming out of the pandemic, many of our community members experienced loneliness and isolation, seeking ways to connect with others and take care of their mental health. Through countless conversations, we realized the importance of creating a space where folks could take care of their mental health and well-being—for free. Since its inception, the program has flourished, welcoming over 1000 attendees and introducing 40 incredible teachers and practitioners to the Center. Our offerings have included queer tango, reiki, crystal healing, sex positivity workshops, expressive arts, queer magic, grief rituals, and yoga.” — Nick Ward (they/them), Community Programs Manager We welcome you to join us for our next Queer & Well offering, Yoga with Ki, happening next Tuesday, July 30th, from 6-7:30 pm. RSVP: https://lnkd.in/gWPmyzg3

The Center's Small Business Program is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs. We want to express our gratitude to San Francisco Business Times for shining a spotlight on Ismael De Luna, the owner of Healing Cuts SF salon in San Francisco 🏳️🌈. Ismael is just one of the many individuals who have received support from our Small Business Program as they navigate the complex entrepreneurial landscape in the city. The program has been instrumental in assisting entrepreneurs with developing business plans, hiring staff, opening retail spaces, networking, and much more. And if you're an artist looking to become a small business owner, check out our brand new entrepreneur program specifically designed for artists! We have 8-10 spots for our first-ever cohort, which starts September 3, 2024. Don't miss out—apply now on our website! 🖌 Read more: https://lnkd.in/g5xvatn4

Pride month may be over, but we want to remind LGBTQ+ folks that we offer community programs, workshops, and services year-round at the Center! Miguel Raphael Bagsit, our Associate Director of Communications, spoke with KQED about how folks can continue to seek community through the Center’s ongoing programming, including monthly open mic nights, TIGNC yoga classes, and more. This week, Governor Gavin Newsom signed the Support Academic Future and Educators for Today’s Youth Act (SAFETY Act) into law, effectively making California the first state in the nation to enact legislation that explicitly protects LGBTQ+ students from dangerous forced outing and other homophobic and transphobic policies.    Given our critical work supporting LGBTQ+ youth, the Center is proud to have supported this legislation, and we want to thank our friends at Equality California for driving this forward amid the spike in homophobic and transphobic policies in other states. According to the legislative tracking organization Movement Advancement Project, eight states have passed laws that require school personnel to out trans students, and five additional states promote the practice but don’t require it under state law.   Read more via Them: https://lnkd.in/gSUr-bhr

At this month's Fresh Starts event, we're offering a unique opportunity to create our very own DIY self-affirmation mirrors! 🪞 This activity is designed to help us reground ourselves and one another in love and positivity and to remind us of the beauty and power we hold as individuals and collectively as trans femme sisters. Please join us TONIGHT from 6 to 8 PM at the Center for this empowering activity. We'll reflect, tenderly hold, and step into our trans femme power. Food and refreshments will be provided. RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/gseQEpBN ** Reminder ** Fresh Starts is a brand new trans femme-centered group at the Center, specifically and exclusively designed for those new to transitioning and deep in their journey. It's a safe space to ask questions, get resources, find mentorship, and kiki with other trans femmes in the Bay Area.
