SDTMD is a non-profit dedicated to improving lodging room night consumption in the City of San Diego. #TourismMattersSD
About us
The San Diego Tourism Marketing District (SDTMD) is a city-wide Tourism Business Improvement District encompassing all areas within the city limits of the City of San Diego. The SDTMD allows lodging businesses within the City of San Diego to organize their efforts to increase tourism, which in turn increases hotel room night stays. It enables the businesses to work together to achieve results that would not be possible individually. Within the SDTMD, lodging businesses are assessed, and those dollars are used to fund programs and services to increase room night stays, creating a true economic engine in the City and the region as a whole. The SDTMD is focused on programs and services that will deliver incremental new room night sales to its assessed members, including marketing of member businesses, tourist promotion activities, and funding of special events and programs. Working together through the SDTMD, the member lodging businesses continue to create strong, measurable results in bringing more visitors to San Diego. Funded in part by the San Diego Tourism Marketing District Corporation with City of San Diego Tourism Marketing District assessment funds.

In case you missed it... SDTMD has approved $50.9 million in funding for FY25. Did you know... tourism supports more than 200,000+ employees? That’s right – 1 in 8 San Diego jobs belong to the travel & tourism industry. The industry helps people like Marc at the Omni Hotels & Resorts welcome visitors to America's Finest City year-round. ☀️ The San Diego Tourism Marketing district provides a secure and stable source of funding for destination marketing which attracts overnight hotel visitors. This then generates tax dollars which supports tourism, city services and influences billions in visitor spending.

As the busy summer travel season begins, we’re reminded of the important role tourism plays in San Diego’s economy. Organizations like the San Diego Tourism Authority, which relies heavily on funding by the SDTMD, help drive room nights and revenue across the City. #tourismmatters #sdtourism

What a way to kick off summer in San Diego! ☀️ #NTTW24
Just days ahead of Memorial Day Weekend, we officially "rolled into" the highly anticipated 2024 summer season. This morning we held a press conference at the San Diego Natural History Museum, with San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and the World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024, to celebrate the start of the bustling summer tourism season and highlight the immense value our $22 billion tourism industry brings to the region. An assembly of tourism icons, sports mascots, and local rollerbladers from Ringer's Roller Rink helped mark the start of summer, which was followed by a shower of brightly colored streamers, beach balls, and flags. The festive procession of the tourism industry included mascots and representatives of SeaWorld San Diego, Sesame Place San Diego, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, LEGOLAND California Resort, San Diego Padres, San Diego Seals, and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, among others. With a bevy of new tourism offerings, an impressive roster of San Diego tourism milestone anniversaries, and the celebration of U.S. Travel Association National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), summer 2024 is off to a rolling start! #NTTW24
