As families encounter challenges and questions, finding the right place to go can be the first obstacle. SCAN is pleased to announce that our Community Resource List is now live at https://lnkd.in/dqEmxUgh to make this process easier for families. “We know families were meant to live in community,” said SCAN CEO, Dee Szyndrowski, MS, MBA, LMHC. “By creating an accessible resource, we create another opportunity for collaboration and hope as families and local providers to come together to build strength and stability. We see this database as another step in the journey toward a more connected, supportive community.” This detailed, searchable database contains hundreds of listings for local and statewide organizations that help to meet the needs of children and families. SCAN’s Community Resource List is a collaborative effort driven by profiles set up by local nonprofit providers, community organizations, faith institutions, and health providers. We invite organizations in each county served to set up their own listing and share their resources and skills with local families. This project is supported by funding from the Indiana Department of Child Services and its Community Partners for Child Safety program. SCAN provides Community Partners for Child Safety services throughout 16 counties in Northeast and North Central Indiana. September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Evidence shows that providing support services, talking about suicide, reducing the access to means of self-harm and following up with loved ones are all actions that we can take to help prevent suicide. The key is to be there, to listen with compassion, keep your loved ones safe and help them create an ongoing network of support. To learn more about these steps, go to www.bethe1to.com, or if you or someone you know is struggling, call the free and confidential Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. #Bethe1to

Impact Story | Healthy Families has been working with a Burmese-only speaking family who has been in the US for only a year. The Father said that he and the Mother had been talking about their Family Support Specialist (FSS) and Healthy Families. Father thanked FSS and said that they haven’t had anyone or any programs that have helped them as much as Healthy Families had. He talked about how hard it was when they arrived in the United States and how the help they previously received wasn’t actually that helpful. The FSS empathized and said she was so glad the program was helping. The FSS, Father, and Mother discussed their transition to the USA for about 20 minutes. The FSS has taught the parents how to use the Google Translate app and how you can hover it over text and it will translate it into a different language for them and now they can read their mail with this help. The FSS also assisted them in finding out what exactly they need to do in order to apply for their Green Cards. The FSS gave them information on local food banks they can use as they often ask about food and the Father makes too much (because of working overtime) to qualify for food stamps. The FSS also assisted them in getting library accounts and checking out books at their library nearby for their children.
