About us
The mission of the Robert Schalkenbach Foundation is to enhance liberty and equality of opportunity for all people through research, outreach, and community-level interventions that integrate concerns for economic, social, and environmental justice; poverty; and government-granted privileges. Today, as a growing population confronts the need to fairly, peacefully, and efficiently allocate access to the gifts of nature, the ideas of Henry George have gained a new relevance.

Opportunities to talk tax policy with an interested, informed audience don't come every day, but this panel was certainly one of them. Thanks so much Russell Richie and Fifth Square for organizing this great event!
A huge thank you to 5th Square for organizing such an incredible event! Discussing Land Value Tax is always fascinating, but having that conversation with such an engaged and dynamic audience made it truly special.

Enthusiasts of Henry George’s ideas have long collected and discussed the many cartoons featuring the famous social reformer, but until now there has never been a single, comprehensive collection of these cartoons. The Robert Schalkenbach Foundation has embarked on the creation of a comprehensive digital archive of political cartoons, featuring George, all of which will be made available, free of charge, on the Foundation’s website. Innovative solutions and models of taxation such as land value taxes and collective land ownership are concepts that stem from economist Henry George’s propositions. Collective land ownership, the broader concept where land is owned and managed by a community has two major subcategories; Municipal Land Trusts (MLTs) and Community Land Trusts (CLTs). Read more about their differences and review a case study of a municipal land trust still in its early development stages: The Upper Harbor Development in Minneapolis, Minnesota. https://lnkd.in/e9QT5mHm

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal provides unprecedented opportunities to take action on climate resilience. In particular, it makes possible community-led infrastructure investment in historically disadvantaged communities, including those in Puerto Rico. Data on underinvested, polluted communities justifies channeling investment into neglected places, among them coastal settlements that find themselves on the front line of climate change. Barrio Playa de Ponce, included. Read more from Sr. Research Associate, David Southgate, and his work in Playa de Ponce here: https://lnkd.in/eemMpxqU
