For nine years, the Schusterman Fellowship supported, cultivated and invested in nearly 200 exceptional leaders across the globe. Behind the program was the Fellowship team. From day one, these professionals ran an impactful leadership development program while nurturing a workplace culture that kept them engaged and fulfilled—encouraging them to grow alongside the leaders they supported. Every manager can take steps to build a culture that values their teammates and fuels success. Here, Colleen Cruikshank, who served as Director of the Schusterman Fellowship, uncovers four core practices that helped her team foster trust, cultivate joy and achieve their goals: https://lnkd.in/epra2xqx #LeadershipDevelopment #Leadership #TeamCulture

Working to achieve more just and inclusive societies
About us
At Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies, we partner with our grantees in the United States and Israel to pursue more just and inclusive societies. In the U.S., we aim to advance racial, gender and economic equity through investments in criminal justice, democracy and voting rights, K-12 public education, gender and reproductive equity and the family’s hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. We also invest in fostering a more joyful and diverse Jewish community. In Israel, we work toward a secure homeland for the Jewish people, a thriving democracy and an inclusive society that cares for its most vulnerable. Charles and Lynn Schusterman established the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation in 1987 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2021, we updated our name to Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies to reflect the full range of the Schusterman family’s philanthropic and advocacy work. Under the leadership of Stacy Schusterman, we invest in leaders, organizations and U.S. public policy to drive long-term systemic change. Our team works with grantees, experts, civic institutions and governments to create pathways to greater equity and inclusion. Our work is inspired by our founders’ commitment to pursue justice, repair the world and ensure all people are treated with dignity and respect. Our team members bring a wide range of professional expertise, cultural backgrounds, lived experiences and perspectives to our work. Kellogg Foundation, Pivotal Ventures, Rockefeller Family Fund, and Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies in announcing the launch of the Investing in America Child Care Partnership. As #Pride Month draws to a close, Idit Klein, President and CEO of our grantee, Keshet, reminds us that the values central to Pride can serve as a powerful compass for navigating times of division and uncertainty. By engaging in vulnerable conversations, leaning into connection and authenticity, and collectively challenging injustice, we can forge a clearer path toward a more just world. The most significant gun violence prevention law in decades, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (#BSCA), was signed into law two years ago. 📜 This landmark legislation has helped to make our communities safer, even as more work remains. Thanks to BSCA's investment of $250 million over five years and ongoing funding to support Community Violence Intervention (#CVI) programs, the White House has supported nearly 80 CVI initiatives across the country. These programs are crucial to disrupting systemic inequities in our policing system, reducing harm and fostering safer communities. We are grateful for the current administration’s commitment to supporting CVI and to the organizations part of our grantee, the Coalition to Advance Public Safety, for leading this work: Cities United, Community Based Public Safety Collective, The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention and The National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR).

What is being trans in prison really like? Our grantee, The Marshall Project, interviewed Willow, Ronnie, Reiyn and April, four trans individuals, to learn more about their experiences in the criminal justice system. The interviews revealed that trans people in prison, like those outside of it, are denied gender-affirming care, misgendered by the people meant to ensure their safety and disproportionately targeted by sexual violence. This month, as we celebrate #Pride against the backdrop of rising anti-trans legislation, we are reminded of the urgent need to ensure the safety and dignity of our community members, including trans people in and beyond prison walls. In the past two years since Roe v. Wade was overturned, our grantees have been leading efforts nationwide to... 🫂 provide people with essential care 🫂 support travel and childcare expenses for patients 🫂 protect individuals at risk of harassment or prosecution 🫂 educate voters about ballot initiatives connected to abortion access 🫂 advance policies that expand access & defend against harmful legislation We are grateful for our grantees’ commitment to ensuring that women—particularly Black, Indigenous and women of color—and transgender and gender-expansive people have freedom and control over their bodies and futures. Hear directly from our grantees and a growing network of activists, clinic workers, faith leaders and volunteers working each day to expand access to care and navigate the post-Roe landscape: https://bit.ly/3KW6AnZ #ReproductiveRights #RoeVWade #HealthcareAccess

#Juneteenth is both a joyous celebration and a stark reminder of our nation's long history of racial inequity and ongoing pursuit of justice. This year, we honor this day by spotlighting an important part of our collective efforts toward justice: ensuring future generations have the educational opportunities to thrive. Our grantee, EdTrust's #LeadingWithExcellence campaign champions increasing the diversity of our educator workforce to create safe, inclusive spaces for students of color and ensure all students receive meaningful, affirming instruction. These educational experiences pave the way to diversity in leadership—and ultimately build upon our progress toward racial equity and healing.
