  • The Central Asia-South Asia power project, commonly known as CASA-1000, is set to resume in May, Said Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS). This ambitious $1.16 billion project is currently under construction and aims to export surplus hydroelectricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. CASA-1000 is a multinational, multi-donor infrastructure project that expands renewable energy access in Central and South Asia, delivering substantial benefits to regional power grids and individual electricity users in the region. The project will allow for the export of 1,300 megawatts of electricity during the summer months when both Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan experience surplus electricity generation from hydroelectric dams. The project includes the construction of 1,387 km of high voltage alternating current (HVAC) and high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines. The transmission lines will move electricity at high voltage between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and from Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. By facilitating clean power export revenues for the Central Asian countries and by alleviating electricity shortages in the South Asian countries, this project enhances growth prospects across both regions. CASA-1000 is a key element for achieving sustainable economic development across the regions. The resumption of the CASA-1000 project in May marks an important step in strengthening the electricity systems across Central Asia and South Asia, and it is eagerly anticipated by all participating countries. #caca1000 #afghanistan #tajikistan #kyrgyzstan #pakistan #project #renewableenergy #update
