About us

Since our founding in 1991, Seattle Chocolate Company has created its signature meltaway truffles and truffle bars in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. The original chocolate factory was destroyed by the 2001 Nisqually Earthquake, but entrepreneur, mother, and investor Jean Thompson has never been one to turn down a challenge. At a make-or-break moment for the company, she stepped up and took the helm as owner and CEO. Jean had little industry experience, but was armed with an unparalleled love of chocolate and a whole lot of grit - and soon turned the company into the colorful, thriving place it is today. In 2012, Jean created jcoco, a bold new chocolate brand under the Seattle Chocolate umbrella, with a focus on feeding hungry families at its core. With each jcoco purchase, jcoco donates fresh servings of food to those in need through partnerships with food banks in Washington, California, and New York. With the help of your chocolate cravings, we’ve donated almost 4 million servings to date! Many things have changed in the last 30 years: we’ve added delightful new flavors, infused the chocolate industry with a healthy dose of color and whimsy, pushed our products to be as earth-friendly as possible, and built an incredible team of chocolate-lovers. But that meltaway truffle you fell in love with 30 years ago? It’s just as delicious as you remember.

We are so excited to announce “Women for Cocoa” a Belgian government backed partnership to improve the lives of cocoa farmers in Ghana.

“Women for Cocoa” is a new partnership aimed at improving the lives of cocoa farmers in Ghana, the second largest cocoa growing country in the world. My daughter and I just got back from these farms where we met the chiefs and farmers and students of these tiny villages; life changing.   Here’s the link to the YouTube short - https://lnkd.in/gNZcGJ2h

Welcome to #WomensHistoryMonth! We figured it’s the perfect time to share some exciting news: our mission to support girls and women has expanded to have GLOBAL reach. 🌍 HERE’S WHAT’S NEW ⬇️ In addition to donating to Girls Inc. here in the US, we’re thrilled to now also support female cocoa farmers in Ghana. 70% of the world’s cocoa is grown in West Africa, and as chocolate makers (and eaters!), we have the chance to make a big impact, right where most cocoa is grown. To start things off, we will be drilling boreholes in two communities to provide a source for water that is clean and nearby - one that will serve a female cocoa farmers’ co-op, and the other a widows' group. Ensuring water is available directly in their villages will make an immediate impact on the women and families of these two communities, and allow for more efficient and lucrative farming practices. We just received word that WATER IS FLOWING in the first location! Our work in Ghana is just getting started, and we hope to support their growth into the future by listening to what they most need. Click to read more, and follow along for updates! #womenowned #womensupportingwomen
