What a wonderful day today will be speaking to a room filled with young ladies from around Denver with their mothers in attendance. Thank you, Katie Hilborn, M.Ed, for bringing together a dynamic group of people like yourself here to uplift, inspire into action, and educate. It's going to be a good day.

Equity-Minded Career Counselor🔹️Career Coach at Mindful Career Guide🔹️Super Validator 🔹️MBTI/SII Certified

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Super Validator!!!🦸🏼♀️My client gave me this new title yesterday and I felt tremendously honored. It reminded me about the importance of validation in career counseling. The job market is tough right now. If the job market was a person, it would be the meanest bully👺 in sixth grade. Aside from job search skills and assistance with transitions, my clients really need a champion. They need someone to remind them about all the things they are doing right. They need someone to help them name their feelings and to give them permission to sit with them. If you are feeling frustrated with your job search, I want you to hear what I told my client. 🔷 You are great at taking care of yourself and it is ok to ask for help. 🔷 The persistence in which you have researched available resources is amazing. 🔷 Self-care is an essential part of career development and rest belongs on your calendar. 🔷 You are doing everything in your power to improve your situation and I hope you write a daily list of what you DID accomplish. It’s called a Ta-da List. The shame you are feeling about your job search probably does not belong to you. 🔷 It belongs to hiring managers who post jobs that don’t exist. 🔷 It belongs to supervisors who interview you five times and never call back. 🔷 It belongs to companies that include bias as a normal part of the hiring process. 🔷 It belongs to people who taught you that a linear career trajectory📈is the norm. If there is someone in your network who needs a Super Validator today, please reach out to that person. Let’s remember that job seekers also need emotional support during their transition. #careercounseling #jobsearch #support

Threads is blowing up lately. If you're looking for exposure to grow your personal brand, it's a great place to be right now (and you HAVE to follow Wendy's 'she's' hilarious). I was in the first 2 million on it but last used it a while ago; this personal post is trending at 6,300 likes, lots of comments, and 95 re-threads. Business owners, rethink your content strategy and Threads. You may get traction if your audience is there.

I've rebranded myself more than a few times over the last 20+ years. For nearly 15 years, I was a shopping center marketer and PR person heading up super regional shopping centers, downtown entertainment districts, and mixed-use properties from San Antonio and Albany to Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. I moved into broadcasting and sold "air" for a few years, only to become an entrepreneur owning a six-figure marketing and PR agency. Today, I've built a "new" brand as the founder of SecondAct|Women and as a pro-age advocate for women and age-diverse workplaces. You see, discovering and owning your personal brand is essential more than ever today. Why? It can lead to more connections and more opportunities when you stay focused. 🎉Well, it's happening. In January, my two words for the year were 👉🏽Emerge and 📢Amplify. I wanted to emerge as a national speaker advocating for women and amplifying our voices, setting my sights on moving my 'brand' forward from not just being the founder of a beautiful community of 21,00+ dynamic women [and allies] over 40 under SecondAct|Women but an age-positive speaker to, directly and indirectly, reframe age, aging, and the outdated stereotypes placed on women (and humans) - all under Barbara Brooks Speaks. After all, I've been speaking on the topic to small to global companies and women's communities for over six years. Since January, I've hosted two events for the International Women of Western Union and traveled from Rhode Island and New York to San Francisco to speak, host, and panel. I'll present to the Women of @CBS News Colorado, Frontier Airlines, and HR and DEI folks at FirstBank this fall, with others to share in the coming weeks. I share to encourage, motivate, and inspire you. You can and will do anything you put your mind to, regardless of the chapter number you sit at today. At 57, I've sat on my dream to be a public speaker for far too long - nearly 15 years yet it took this long to "GO." So please, I ask of you. If you have a dream, big ideas, and things you want to do, push play. Aging is living. Live a little, will you? If you want to learn to restart, refresh, or reframe your personal brand, I'm hosting a three-part Personal Branding Masterclass starting August 20th. In it, you'll work to identify, own, and communicate "Me, Inc." and hear on pitching media from @Mary Latsis, former TV producer of Colorado Everyday Show. Learn more about it at https://lnkd.in/gVPMVNa5 #AgeDiversity #AgeBias #Agesim #WomenDontExpire #IntergenerationalDiversity wins every time. do you keep getting spammed inside LinkedIn? it's frustrating.

I'm exhausted by the number of blind outreach DMs here on LinkedIn. It amazes me that people believe they will book new business despite having no connection, introduction from another person, or knowledge of my company or me. And when they get it all wrong about what I do and pitch me on "growing my sales," it gets me. Having a heavy sales and marketing background, one of the first lessons is to get to know your prospect BEFORE pitching them, and that's only if your product and service can genuinely help them with their pain points or transform them somehow. So stop it, spammers! Do business the "old-fashioned" way, will ya? Clayton Hotel & Members Club
