It’s Tune In Thursday!  Join us for another episode of the SENIA Happy Hour Podcast in which host Lori Boll chats with Tricia Friedman, an educator and founder of allied.org, about how algorithms shape our lives, especially in education and social media. They discuss the importance of understanding algorithms for information literacy and DEIJ work. Trisha encourages exploring how these systems influence our identities and relationships. Tune in for an insightful discussion on the complexities of algorithmic systems and their societal impact. Plus, don't miss Trisha as a keynote speaker at SENIA Unplugged: Inclusive Insights in November! https://lnkd.in/gu5hB8Ps #SENIAConnect #SENIAInternational #SENIAAcademy #InclusiveEducation #SantiagoChile

I just finished listening to the SENIA International Happy Hour podcast with Kevin Schaefer from the SIP project, and Lori Boll, and wow, so many valuable takeaways from this conversation. Kevin spoke about the results pyramid, and how schools are often expecting new results on an old culture. Changing the experiences that individuals are provided can change the belief systems that impact action. I'm excited to be leading work with AISA Africa to support stakeholders and Heads of School as they look to shift cultures in their schools towards more inclusion of students with neurodiversity. In these workshops, we will learn about getting to the root of the belief systems that impact decision-making, and plan tangible steps to change those belief systems and move cultures forward. My session in Capetown is "Cultivating a Culture of Inclusion: Reshaping community perceptions and beliefs about special education". I will be sharing my own story as a Head of School and how we moved our community forward for inclusion. After Cape Town, I will be offering a virtual workshop series "Spearheading the Work Towards More Inclusive School Communities". In this three-part series, we will reflect on our own beliefs about inclusion and establish a vision for where we want our schools to go. Then we will evaluate the readiness of our stakeholders and prep a brief sound byte we can use when explaining our bold decision-making for inclusion to boards, parents, and other stakeholders. Finally, we will explore how to shift mindsets and build a community of advocates for inclusion. A big thank you to AISA Africa for hosting these important conversations

Tuesday Tip! 🔰 New Academic Year! New and still some of the same goals and aspirations...... 🤔 What do I mean you might ask? 🌍 Continued commitments to move inclusion forward through collaborations, conversation, and coaching with thought leaders and innovators in the space AS WELL as bringing along those who cannot see their force and power within themselves to be the change. What is leadership if we do not empower those around us? 🌳 The seed you plant today will bear the fruit for the next generation. Inclusion is not a one-day one-way-one -walk - it is a marathon that requires rest, reset, and reimagining. What seeds have you planted today, what tree are you watering tomorrow? 💭 Mindset shifts require a reworking and retraining of the brain that can then produce infinite possibilities in how we approach inclusion. No muscle will grow unless you put in the work to develop it and retrain it to adapt to a new way of doing, being, and learning. What does your brain-building work look like? What are you consuming, who do you learn from, and what are you reproducing in the inclusion space? 🏫 Our learners deserve diverse educators and leaders who consider AND try out all the possibilities and yet when none doesn't work - they keep trying different ways and approaches to ensure that learners of all backgrounds - especially with neurodiverse/disabilities are members of the learning community just like any other learner. 🗓 What does your 2024 - 2025 journey look like? What goals have you embarked upon to support our diverse learners and their families? 📨 DM me and let me help you and your team in creating inclusive learning environments for our neurodiverse learners. Celebrating the remarkable achievements of Smrithy Rajesh, a dedicated advocate for inclusion, her family has turned personal challenges into a powerful movement for change. As a parent of a special needs child, she often felt anxious in public places due to society's lack of empathy. Her resolve was tested when two staff members of SriLankan Airlines unjustly claimed that her autistic son would pose a threat to passengers if allowed to fly. Determined to prevent other families from facing similar trauma, she courageously filed a case against the airline for violating the Rights for People with Disabilities (RPWD) Act 2016 in the Court of Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. Her victory not only brought justice for her son but also sparked a significant shift in the aviation industry, prompting all Indian airlines to enforce the RPWD Act and ensure that everyone has the right to fly. Her son continues to inspire her advocacy, driving her to work tirelessly for other families and children, and helping to create a more inclusive society where every individual is valued. This award celebrates Smrithy for her unwavering commitment to fostering inclusion and her impactful contributions to the rights of persons with disabilities. Congratulations to Smrithy Rajesh for being a SENIA World Changer! Here her story here: https://lnkd.in/eUSNb8t9 #SENIAWorldChanger #inclusion #RightToFly #SENIAInternational
