ServeHAITI's mission is to foster Health and Development opportunities for the people of Grand-Bois, Haiti.

About us

ServeHAITI is a volunteer organization committed to working in solidarity with the people of Grand-Bois, Haiti. A community-centric approach has been adopted to address issues in HEALTH, WATER, EDUCATION, and ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT using core values of respect, dignity and sustainability. Lack of a quality health care infrastructure contributes to Haiti’s generally poor health status. With the majority of Haitians residing in rural areas like Grand-Bois, most don’t have access to even the most basic health services. With your help, ServeHAITI has established several programs to improve the health of the overall community.

Having reliable internet at the Health Center has been an issue for many years. The internet could be unavailable for weeks at a time. We have been able to secure access to a new internet provider, which has led to a significant improvement. We are now able to reliably exchange information via email and regularly hold Zoom meetings. As we are not able to physically travel to Haiti due to the gang violence, this has been tremendously helpful and allows us to be in daily #communication. Another proud #milestone to support our work that will allow residents to build a thriving, self-sufficient Grand-Bois where every man, woman, and child has access to healthcare, education, economic opportunities, clean water and nutritious food. "Mountain Top Experience" by Tom Sunderbruch "I have many heartwarming stories of Haiti, but two jump to my mind when I think of my two trips. The first involves Chris Smith. Chris always carried many small tootsie rolls with him and gave them to the children. One morning he had handed out a few and he and I were on the balcony of the hospital watching the people below as well in the surrounding hills. We saw three small children (5 yrs. or so) talking in the road in front of the hospital/clinic. Eventually we determined they were trying to divide the small tootsie roll. Chris ran down to them and sure enough, the one who had received the tootsie roll was trying to split the inch or two tootsie roll into three parts so he could share it with his siblings. What a lesson for us!" Share your favorite story as a volunteer with ServeHAITI!

Thank you for showing up for our dedicated Haitian Staff and for taking the time to join us on a zoom call with our Haitian staff last Thursday! It was truly a gift to all be together virtually, and it’s important that our staff members know we continue to support them during such difficult times. We will be sharing more from the calls in the coming weeks, but since each call had such important information we wanted to share some of the major take-aways in the meantime: ~ Many people have left the country in the past year, including those running near-by health facilities (that are now shut down), making ServeHAITI’s Health Center the closest health care facility for many. ~ There are currently 100 children enrolled in our Medika Mamba Malnutrition Program. The program is running smoothly except for supply procurement. Chief Operating Officer, André Fritz Jean Louis, reported that there have been moments where they needed to ration some of the Medika Mamba medicine for this program so they don’t run out. ~ Two staff members have left the country in the last year, but others carry on with their important work despite these traumatic events. Several have had to leave their homes in Port au Prince and/or have had to relocate family members who are in dangerous areas. Our staff are doing their best to support one another during these trying times. This #GivingTuesday please consider sharing a small gift if you can and/or start your own fundraiser with the links below. Starting a fundraiser is very easy and can help us expand our reach significantly! Thank you!

No matter where you live education is the single, greatest weapon against poverty. Haitians place a high value on #education but most families can only afford to send one child to school for just a few years. The goal of the ServeHAITI Education Initiative is to assure that students are prepared to learn, teachers are prepared to teach and the buildings provide a quality and adequate learning environment. We were so honored to receive a #ThankYouLetter from the founder and principal of Good Samaritain de Palmes Community School, Mr. Guerrier Wilfride! "Nan non tout elèv ki fè pati lekòl kominotè bon Samaritain de Palmes nan non tout profesè mwen mete vwam ak paran yo pou Di Yon gro mèsi ak ServeHaiti épi Yon gran mèsi pou Mr Ron ki toujou la pou reponn ak bezwen lekòl nan Pal la antanke direktè lekòl la mwen mande Bondye ki bay la vi a kontinye jete gras li sou tout moun ki ede lekòl la yon fason nan Jan pays yo. Merci merci merci!" ~ Directeur Guerrier Wilfride "On behalf of all the students who are part of the Good Samaritain de Palmes Community School and on behalf of all the teachers, I want to say a big thank you to ServeHaiti, to the Serve Haiti education committee and to Mr. Ron Apollon, who is always there to respond to the needs of the school in Palmes. As the school principal, I ask God who gives life to continue to pour his grace on all those who help the school in in their own way. Thank you thank you thank you!" ~ Wilfrid Guerrier, Founder and Director If you want to learn more about our programs, please visit https://lnkd.in/eQtAzV5e for more information and updates. #ServeHAITI #CollaborateWithUs #MakeADifference #PartnershipOpportunities #YouCanHelp #Sponosrship #Partnership #impact #empowerment #school #bethechange #haiti #GrandBois

23 years ago ServeHAITI's Medical Director, Dr. Leopold Bourgouin, signed up to serve the community of Grand-Bois as Primary Physician. He started by coming to see patients in Grand-Bois once a month for two weeks in the makeshift "clinic" in the back of the local St. Pierre Church. Since opening its doors in June 2005, Leo has lived at the St. Vincent de Paul Health Center where he sees patients, oversees all medical and support personnel, and enjoys educating the community on agronomy and so much more! Those who know Leo know his dedication to the community and we couldn't be where we are today without his commitment to bringing health and hope to the people of Grand-Bois. Aside from his love of medicine and being an advocate in the community for all of the people in Grand-Bois, Dr. Leo, Medical Director for ServeHAITI has a passion for gardening. Dr. Leo rises early each morning to walk in his garden, checking on the crops and overseeing his experiments with seeds for growth on the land. Dr. Leo has taken his love of gardening and passion for helping people to work with Floresta in creating a Community Garden Project. This is being led by by Eliano, an agricultural technician in the region who is working with Floresta on seeds and garden solutions in Haiti. Thank you Dr. Leo for your great leadership and expertise, not only in practicing medicine and gardening, but your investment in humanity to give us all hope in the future. Mesi Anpil.
