Christy chose to work in inpatient rehab because it offers the unique opportunity to positively impact people who have experienced major changes in their lives. Our SGMC Health nurse residents completed the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program, a 12-month program designed to help them transition into the clinical environment. This program offers a blend of ongoing education, hands-on experience, and mentorship. 🩺 Nursing residency cohorts are instrumental in shaping the future of healthcare by producing confident, skilled, and compassionate nurses who uphold the highest standards of care.     Please join us in congratulating the Operating Room Team as our July Health System Heroes! 👏 🎉 They were recognized for their attention to detail and quick actions while caring for a pediatric patient who experienced malignant hyperthermia (MH), a rare life-threatening reaction to anesthesia. Due to the immediate response of the team in activating protocol the patient was treated and has recovered well.     This special delivery was 𝓽𝔀𝓲𝓬𝓮 𝓪𝓼 𝓷𝓲𝓬𝓮! 👶👶 Meet twins Koda and Elijah Mitchell, born to proud parents Delilah Cruz and Rico Mitchell. They are snoozing in our complimentary swaddles, given to each family as a part of our infant safe sleep initiative. ❤️ Recognized as a Gold Safe Sleep Hospital by Cribs for Kids we work to reduce infant sleep-related deaths through patient education and a partnership with the SGMC Health Foundation. 🏆 In addition to the swaddles, we also provide a travel bassinet to those identified as needing a safe place for baby to sleep. Safe Sleep ABC's: 👶 Alone - Baby should be placed alone in the crib to sleep. 🔙 Back - Place baby on their back. 😴 Crib - Use a firm, flat mattress and fitted sheet. Keep the crib empty.     Meet Estefano Larios, a remarkable Volunteen in our summer program! 👋 Estefano is a senior at Lowndes High School who was recommended for our program by his healthcare science teacher. He decided to join us to explore his interest in medicine. 💊 He's currently working on 5T, where his favorite part has been interacting with nurses, doctors, and patients.     𝑴𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝑰𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝑶𝒚𝒐𝒘𝒆, 𝑴𝑫, often known as Dr. O! 🥼🩺 Dr. O has served as the Medical Director of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine since 2019. The Inpatient Rehab unit serves patients who have suffered a functional loss due to a disabling illness or injury. Our dedicated team of therapists, nurses, social workers, and coordinators work together to restore function and quality of life for each patient. Dr. O chose rehabilitation medicine because he finds the neurological and musculoskeletal systems fascinating. 🧠🦴 The most rewarding part for him is seeing patients' progress and improvement. In his free time, Dr. O loves spending time with his family, traveling the world, reading, working out, and practicing mindful meditation. #remarkablepeople #extraordinarycare #humankindness

    When 89-year-old Maurice Wiggins began feeling worn out, he knew something wasn't right. During a routine checkup, his doctor discovered a new murmur. 🩺 Tests revealed a diagnosis of severe aortic valve stenosis, and he was referred to Interventional Cardiologist Luke Seibolt, MD.
