Two years ago we were honored to be one of the radiology departments to receive a LEGO MRI set from the Lego Foundations' Learning Through Play initiative. Sharing the video we made in June 2022 as a #TBT 🧱 From the Lego Foundation: "The LEGO MRI Scanner is developed with a child-centered focus and learning through play approach, which strengthens children’s skill development. The model is designed around the child’s MRI treatment, and is a means for clinicians to facilitate both role play and dialogue so that the child feels safe and can build confidence and resilience before the actual journey, in turn reducing stress and anxiety. This Labor Day we pay tribute to the contributions and achievements of the working men and women who paved the way for all of us. If you have had the opportunity to meet Beth Roddy, the ASC Administrator at the Surgery Center in Shrewsbury, this will come as no surprise. Known at Shields for her impactful leadership and hands-on approach, we were so excited to have been informed that she has been honored with the Volunteer of the Year Award for her exceptional contributions to the SurgiCorps Guatemala Mission. This recognition highlights Beth's deep commitment to providing life-changing medical care to underserved communities, a passion she has nurtured throughout her nearly 25-year career as a nurse. This year, Beth completed her fifth trip to Guatemala, where she and her team performed 134 surgeries. Reflecting on the experience, she says, "I am so thankful and appreciative for this opportunity to help the amazing people of Guatemala receive the care they need. Beth's story is one of perseverance, passion, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. Her recognition as Volunteer of the Year is a well-deserved honor, and we are incredibly proud to have her as part of the Shields Health family. Congratulations, Beth!
