Network Members, nominate your outstanding tenants by this Wednesday, 8/30! https://conta.cc/3MdRAmf Every year, the Supportive Housing Network of New York honors 1-2 supportive housing tenants with the Tenant of the Year Award at our Annual Awards Gala. The gala will take place on Monday, October 28th from 6-9PM at 583 Park Ave in Manhattan. We work with the tenant and their provider to create a 2-3 minute celebratory video that is screened at the event and promoted on our website and social media. This is an amazing opportunity for a supportive housing tenant, who has made a positive impact on their neighbors and/or community members, to be recognized for their unique contributions and accomplishments, as well as an opportunity to share how supportive housing has helped them achieve their goals. Increase the supply of permanent supportive housing units within CoC geographic areas to address individuals and families experiencing homelessness where one member of the household has a disability. Encourage coordination between housing providers, health care organizations, and social service providers. Ensure access to resources for projects to expand opportunities for new PSH units in States with populations less than 2.5 million. Ensure new PSH units are conveniently located near local services; e.g., walking distance, near reliable transportation services, provide access to telehealth. Affirmatively further fair housing by addressing barriers which perpetuate segregation, hinder access to areas of opportunity for protected class groups and concentrate affordable housing in under-resourced areas. Only one application can be submitted through each Continuum of Care. The available amount of funds that can be applied for by the chosen applicant for our CoC (NY-603) is $7 million. This Request for Qualifications will help determine the most qualified and viable applicant, as determined by the CoC Ranking Committee. The Network was thrilled to join the Office of Mayor-Elect Eric Adams and NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development today to celebrate the announcement of record numbers for #supportivehousing units developed and preserved in a single year, at Services for the UnderServed's new affordable & supportive residence, Melrose North. Network Board Chair and Breaking Ground (NYC Permanent Supportive Housing) President and CEO Brenda Rosen, provided remarks, "We are thrilled to celebrate a great milestone for New York City with an historic number of supportive housing apartments – over 2,100 – the most on-record in a single year produced for our City's most vulnerable." The Network released the following statement in response to this announcement: Today’s historic announcement of a record number of supportive housing units developed and preserved in a single year reaffirms New York’s leadership in the effort to end chronic homelessness.   For over 40 years, New York has pioneered the model of combining affordable, quality housing with voluntary services. We applaud the City’s ongoing commitment to the most effective means of helping our most vulnerable neighbors live with dignity.   This year alone, the City created a record 1,500 new homes and preserved an additional 649. The administration clearly understands that the only way to truly end chronic homelessness is by creating and preserving more supportive housing.    This is incredible progress and an important step in the right direction, but we are still far from meeting the ever-growing need as our city continues to combat crises on multiple fronts – from housing affordability to mental health to increasingly deadly opioids.   It's more important than ever that we maximize our limited resources to ensure we are developing the kind of housing, and providing the kind of services, that vulnerable New Yorkers require to succeed.   At this point, the allocation of congregate units under the original NYC 15/15 is almost complete, while less than 20 percent of planned scattered site units are operational. The Network stands ready to work with the administration on a reallocation plan to create additional congregate units under NYC 15/15 and to preserve our essential existing stock to maintain – and surpass – this year’s remarkable achievements.
