If you are puzzled by the court's ruling in the Google Search case, you're not alone. The judge took pains to praise Google for innovation and consumer trust, describing Google Search as "the industry's highest quality search engine" that" has earned Google the trust of hundreds of millions of daily users." This is consistent with research showing that consumers trust Google Search as a reliable resource to access information about the world. As our own independent research has shown, consumers increasingly scour the internet through a variety of sources beyond traditional engines and the market for online search has never been more competitive.

The recent Supreme Court decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo has overturned the Chevron doctrine, raising important questions about the FTC's authority to issue substantive antitrust rules. Key Points: 📝 FTC Authority: Traditionally, the FTC has enforced "unfair methods of competition" (UMC) through case-by-case adjudication. Recently, it has claimed broader authority under Section 6(g) to issue administrative rules, such as the nationwide ban on noncompete agreements. 📝 Impact of Loper Bright: With Chevron gone, federal courts will now independently evaluate agency actions without deferring to their interpretations. This could significantly affect the FTC's rulemaking and other federal agency regulations. Check out the full deep dive with Morten Skroejer ⬇

We're excited to share that the Senate has passed the DEFIANCE Act (Disrupt Explicit Forged Images and Non-Consensual Edits Act of 2024)! This landmark legislation establishes liability for those who create or distribute AI-generated intimate images without the depicted individual's consent. Paul Lekas, our Senior Vice President of Global Public Policy at SIIA , praised the Senate for adopting a balanced approach that considers intermediary liability and First Amendment concerns. Paul's statement highlights the importance of this act in protecting privacy and ensuring ethical AI use. We now look to the House to address this crucial issue and take action to safeguard individuals' rights. #DEFIANCEAct #AIethics #PrivacyProtection #Legislation #PublicPolicy.
