Last week, Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance hosted their annual Summerfest event at our Plant 1 facility and, WOW, we are blown away by the support and positive feedback we’ve received from attendees! Special thanks to PNAA, our staff, and to everyone else that had a hand in making it such a great event. We were honored to share with the nearly 100 attendees—including State Representatives Chris Stearns and Debra Entenman—what our organization is all about. We are proving that a workplace culture based on expectations and norms that reinforce inclusion, teamwork, and shared success is a winning strategy! The workplace of the future is going to be highly diverse! The evening included networking, an award ceremony, a ribbon cutting for our new anodize line with 22’ long and 8’ deep tanks. Then, attendees broke into four groups and received an in-depth tour of the facility—including a demonstration of our new VR Paint Training Simulator, and a robotic graining operation. Congratulations again to our outstanding Chemical Maintenance Team for being honored with the prestigious Commitment to Compliance Award by King County’s Industrial Waste Program. We did it! Our new Aerospace Anodize Processing Line is fully installed, operational, and soon to begin the certification process. These tanks are BIG!! The project was nearly complete in 2020 when it was put on hold due to the pandemic. It feels good to be moving forward again! Congratulations to the 29 graduates of the Skills Inc. Aerospace Internship Program Class of 2024! You have demonstrated that you are ready for the next step in your life journey. We are proud of you and know that you have set yourself up for future success—wherever that path takes you. Skills Inc. would like to express its gratitude to everyone that had a hand in mentoring and supporting these students—including family and friends, instructors, employees at Skills Inc., school administrators, community partners, and donors. During the academic year, the interns spent 3 hours a day at Skills Inc., developing valuable career readiness skills while earning credit towards their high school diplomas. They are leaving with experience in applied math, workplace documentation, and graphical literacy. Fifteen of the students also earned the ACT National Career Readiness Certification. All of these graduates developed the capabilities and attitudes that will help them thrive in their future endeavors. Most importantly, they will leave high school knowing that they are highly capable and that their disability does not define them. We are excited that our Director of Finance, Monica Dooley, and Board Director, Tommy Gantz, are speaking at the Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance's 11th Annual Women in Aerospace Conference this Thursday. Both are a perfect fit for this year's theme, ‘Catalysts for Impact’.

Skills Inc. is proud to announce that Tommy Gantz has joined our Board of Directors. Tommy’s devotion and knowledge of the aerospace industry is extensive. She’s currently the head of business development for TLG Aerospace and, in her spare time, volunteers at the Museum of Flight, Reno Air Races, Raisbeck Aviation High School, Impact Washington, and Aerospace Futures Alliance. Her love for aerospace and desire to open doors to a more diverse workforce make her a good match for Skills Inc.
