New European project in which #aimenct is involved: Smart-Pumps❗ This new #HorizonEurope initiative aims to revolutionise heat-pumps design and manufacturing.♨ By leveraging cutting-edge techniques, this project will create sustainable and efficient heat-pumps with smart functionalities, this involves prioritising #recycled #materials and component #recyclability throughout the heat-pump life cycle, integrating #sensors for performance optimisation, and establishing standardised protocols for mass production. ✅ Within Smart-Pumps we are responsible for the #additivemanufacturing part including #DED methods, #multimaterials, #manufacturing strategies and sensor embedment during manufacturing. 📍 At the end of June, our colleagues Sara Carracelas and Alexandre Cunha traveled to Crete, Greece, to meet the rest of the partners of this project and establish its initial action points in the kick off meeting of Smart-Pumps. Smart-Pumps "Sustainable multi-functional and recyclable heat pumps", European Research Project under Horizon Europe call. Hellenic Mediterranean University and NextGen Manufacturing Technologies Group - Hellenic Mediterranian University (Coordinator) had the pleasure to host the Smart-Pumps kick-off meeting, at our premises in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, on the 27th & 28th of June 2024. Smart-Pumps’ primary objective is to develop innovative heat pumps, by implementing standardizable novel design, manufacturing and testing methodologies for low environmental footprint high efficiency smart heat pumps, reliable, affordable and safe, made of recycled materials, thus increasing EU’s heat pump manufacturing sector competitiveness, circularity and sustainability. Smart-Pumps aims: (1) to optimally redesign HP components under the newly introduced Design for Additive/Hybrid Manufacturing concept, which apart from operational characteristics, includes life-cycle parameters, such as recycled material sourcing and component recyclability, for maximum efficiency, sustainability, safety and reliability, (2) to utilize multiple materials which are mixed at different percentages in the various operational sections of HP components, following the Functional Grading methodology, thus fully exploiting their properties (mechanical, thermal, electrical, etc) and maximizing material usage efficiency, (3) to embed sensors and devices within HP components for monitoring and operational data extraction, as well as for actively changing HP component structure to optimize operation, and (4) to standardize testing and create manufacturing process and assembly protocols for HPs. #HorizoneEU #cinea_eu Consortium: Hellenic Mediterranean University, Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) Hellenic Institute of Transport Danfoss AIMEN Centro Tecnológico Deep Blue AETHON Engineering
