SRI member and director of the Center for Reproductive Health Sciences at Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Sarah England, joins March of Dimes on their latest MODCAST episode. In this episode, Dr. England, alongside Dr. Nima Aghaeepour, discusses a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) model that found individuals who sleep and move more have a 52% reduced risk of delivering early, while those who sleep and move less have a 44% increased risk of delivering early.

Gene therapy has the potential to protect brain growth in small babies. Our new research with Anna David and Mariya Hristova at UCL is published this week in the journal of Society for Reproductive Investigation. We showed that VEGF gene therapy in #pregnancy normalises infant brain growth and reduces injury in an animal model of fetal growth restriction. Fetal growth restriction is a condition affecting pregnant women and babies that has no cure. Babies grow slowly before birth and can be at risk of prematurity and neurodevelopment problems. This is a promising step toward treatment. We are thankful to Action Medical Research for funding this project. The OHSU Center for Developmental Health is looking for graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and early-career faculty interested in the long-term consequences of developmental programming to attend our third DOHaD Summer Course.
