Are you looking to give back to your community? Consider joining our Personnel Commission as an alternate! The commission is a non-partisan public body responsible for the administration of our Merit System for the selection, retention and promotion of classified employees in public school districts. Classified employees are school employees who do not hold a teaching credential, such as custodial staff, IT technicians, administrative assistants, and financial analysts. Alternates are paid a $50 stipend per meeting, reimbursed for mileage, and get access to group health benefits at their own expense. After more than 48 years of working at SCOE, Rachel Medina is retiring! Rachel is a transition assistant who supports students receiving special education services through job training at Oliver's Market on Stony Point Road in Santa Rosa. SCOE’s Equitable Education Services division and a cohort of 80 educators are wrapping up the first phase of our Culturally Responsive Pedagogy Summer Institute! 👏 The eight-day workshop empowers teachers to create environments that allow all students to feel represented and connected to the curriculum, each other, and their community. It will be followed by already scheduled coaching and group checkins during the upcoming school year. We’re so grateful for the educators who have committed to this work and for the student panelists who shared their experiences! 🙏

As Sonoma County seeks to build enough housing to meet our region’s needs, developers have asked elected officials and school districts to review fees charged to developers that support local schools. Put your hands together for our youngest SCOE graduates! 👏🧑🎓 The El Colegio Early Childhood Education Center in Rohnert Park celebrated 13 students on Friday. These students, who were referred to us for specialized services, will attend public school throughout Sonoma County next school year. We also celebrated two of our longtime staff members, teacher Laura Temple and teaching assistant Eva Stillman, who are retiring from SCOE after a combined 48 years of service.
