Congratulations to Senator Rick Scott and House Representative Mike Ezell on becoming new #AbilityOne Congressional Champions! #DisabilityEmployment
Senator Rick Scott of Florida and House Representative Mike Ezell of Mississippi Become AbilityOne Champions This Week on Capitol Hill! Senator Scott and House Representative Ezell of Mississippi's 4th Congressional District were honored on Tuesday as AbilityOne Congressional Champions by GCE and SourceAmerica. GCE nominated both as federal policymakers who have shown support for the AbilityOne Program through congressional actions and commitment to constituents with disabilities, while supporting opportunities for economic and personal independence. The AbilityOne program provides employment opportunities through federal contracts, for over 36,000 people who are blind or have significant disabilities, including veterans across the country. GCE is proud to be an AbilityOne program provider in over 14 states and the District of Columbia (DC). We're always so proud to share the impact of the #AbilityOne Program! We thank the offices of Senator Tillis and Senator Budd for their commitment to disability employment, and thank you ECVC Inc. (Eastern Carolina Vocational Center) for sharing! #DisabilityEmployment
Last Wednesday (July 17th), ECVC had the honor of welcoming staff from the offices of Senator Tillis and Senator Budd of North Carolina. Thank you to Betsy Byma (Constituent Advocate from Sen. Tillis’s Greenville, NC Office), Trey Lewis (Northeast Regional Representative from Sen. Tillis’s Greenville, NC Office), and John Tayloe (Regional Director from Senator Budd’s Raleigh Office) for taking the time to meet with us. During the visit, we showcased ECVC's product and service capabilities, provided an overview of the AbilityOne program, and led a tour of our production facility and Custom Frame Shop. We also held discussions regarding ECVC's perspective on legislative issues impacting employment and income for people with disabilities. On this day in 1990, after decades of activism from disability advocates, the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) was signed into law by George H. W. Bush. This landmark civil rights law prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in all areas of public life and ensures that people with disabilities have equal rights and opportunities. #ADA34 #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityEmployment
