Unlocking a Better Baltimore

About us

When slot machine gambling came to Maryland, Baltimore residents were promised the resources to improve their communities. We are fulfilling that promise. In 2015, Baltimore adopted the South Baltimore Gateway Master Plan, a sweeping plan to improve neighborhoods near the casino. The City then began to implement this plan, with the advice of the Local Development Council (LDC) and funding provided by the Local Impact Grants generated by video lottery terminals. It soon became clear that another organization was also needed to help spend these funds – something that could be flexible, nimble, and entrepreneurial. So in 2016, the South Baltimore Gateway Partnership was established. Now the City and the Partnership split Baltimore’s share of the Local Impact Grants. In order to successfully implement the ambitious agenda laid out in the Master Plan, we created our own Strategic Plan to narrow our focus to a few key areas. We intend to make decisive change in a few critical topics, rather than having a minor impact on many. Under our Strategic Plan, we will spend the coming years focusing on three crucial elements of the South Baltimore Gateway Master Plan: Environmental Sustainability, Health and Wellness, and Community Development and Revitalization. We also have divided our work into three program areas: Community Grants, Enhanced Services, and Transformational Projects. We are governed by a Board of Directors comprised of residents and business owners, and operate in a District: Neighborhoods Include: -Barre Circle -Carrol-Camden Industrial area -Cherry Hill -Federal Hill -Federal Hill South -Lakeland -Mount Winans -Otterbein -Pigtown / Washington Village -Ridgely's Delight -Riverside -Saint Paul -Sharp-Leadenhall -South Baltimore Neighborhood -Spring Garden Industrial Area -Stadium Area -Westport Note: Port Covington is not included in our district.

  • We are delighted to invite you to celebrate with us and Baltimore City Recreation & Parks to the ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Carroll Park Recreation Center! Please join us on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 11:00am in Carroll Park (800 Bayard Street, Baltimore, MD, 21223). This exciting project began with the announcement of funding in July 2021 and we’re excited to see its completion: https://lnkd.in/epbRQcvW SBGP is proud to show our ongoing commitment to community revitalization through funding projects like this rec center, as well as programs supporting opportunities for health and wellness. Major capital projects like these are possible through our partnership with Baltimore City and funding from Casino Local Impact Grants, including from Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino. This project is especially made possible by community members, who have made clear the importance of having recreational spaces in their neighborhoods and their participation in the process. We’re looking forward to celebrating with you! ID: View of the renovation recreation center with a clean, brick exterior and "Carroll Park Rec" written on the roof in green, block letters.
