About us

The South Carolina Trucking Association is a nonprofit trade organization that represents all the various parties constituting South Carolina's vibrant trucking industry. Our mission is to advocate, educate and collaborate for successful trucking operations in SC. The association was first formed in the 1930s when truck operators found it necessary to do collectively what they could not do individually. Since its inception, the SCTA has been dedicated to the protection, support, and enrichment of its collective membership, while promoting good public policy.

  • Brake Safety Week NEXT WEEK! Set for August 25-31 this year, Brake Safety Week is a CMV inspection and enforcement initiative organized by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA). The focus for 2024 will be on brake linings and pads. Inspectors will be on the lookout for signs of excessive wear, cracks, and other problems with brake components. Even minor issues, like rubbing air lines, can result in vehicles being taken out of service. CVSA has also announced that during this year's Brake Safety Week, some jurisdictions will be using performance-based brake testers, which provide more accurate measurements of a vehicle's braking efficiency, which could impact the number of out-of-service violations reported.

  • With Texas coming on board, all 50 states have now adopted Truckers Against Trafficking’s Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement (MVE) model! Forty-four states have adopted the model in full, and six have adopted in part. Created in 2013 by the Iowa DOT’s Office of Motor Vehicle Enforcement, in conjunction with TAT, the Iowa MVE model activates law enforcement and government agencies to spread human trafficking awareness. There are six core elements state law enforcement must achieve for full implementation, and some states have opted to pursue that, while others have opted partial implementation. • Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) is a national nonprofit that equips truckers to recognize and report human trafficking. With 1,824,807 people trained, TAT empowers drivers to be vigilant on the roads, using their unique position to help combat this crime and save lives. Since joining the AG's Task Force on Human Trafficking in 2017, SCTA has taken significant steps to combat human trafficking. We’ve hosted a Truckers Against Trafficking Coalition Build, championed education for companies, students, and drivers, formed a CDL-focused coalition called SC Highway Heroes, and led the effort to have schools educate on human trafficking before the Federal mandate.
