Excited to announce that SpaceWorks Enterprises, Inc. (SEI) has signed a Range Facility Agreement to return their RED capsules to the Koonibba Test Range!   The signing of the agreement comes off the back of an MoU which was signed at the Space Symposium in April. It marks a big step forward for both companies as we start working through the approval process to return the capsules from orbit.   South Australia is the place to return in-space manufactured technology to Earth. Successful hot fire testing of our storable bipropellant thruster last week at SpaceWorks’ new site in #Georgia! We recently deployed QuickShot version 8.0! Our newest release features a trajectory-dependent, multi-material layer transient thermal response model that is executed during run-time propagations. This powerful new model provides users with new trajectory-coupled capabilities such as imposing heating constraints on a system (eg, surface temperature limits) or permitting QuickShot's optimizer to control material thicknesses or properties. What should the next Concorde look like? SpaceWorks Enterprises, Inc. (SEI) recently completed a study for NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration that considered that question from an economic point of view. Assuming that an economically viable supersonic or hypersonic aircraft needs to be a simultaneous winning business case for the airlines, the airframe manufacturer, and the engine manufacturer, we explored a design space from Mach 1.5 to Mach 6 and passenger capacities of 15 – 125 passengers. The answer? Assuming 2030 projected passenger markets and aircraft technologies, our recommended SST 2030 is a Mach 1.6, four engine, 60 passenger aircraft with SAF fuel and a 5,700 nmi range. It could serve 46 daily overwater routes from the USA with a one-way passenger price of $3,500 - $4,500. Given more time for air travel markets to grow and technology to advance, our recommended SST 2040 supersonic aircraft is a Mach 4, 32 passenger and 4,500 nmi overwater vehicle. As NASA investments in low-boom technologies mature, high-speed markets may expand to include overland routes that will further improve the economic viability.
