It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we announce the retirement of Sister Betty Frascino. Sister Betty is from the religious order of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany who founded St. Mary's in 1938. She first came to St. Mary's in the late 1960's to live in the convent which used to be located behind the Main Chapel, however, she was involved in ministries outside of the hospital. Most notable of those was her work as a prison chaplain for nearly 40 years. She has certainly been a mainstay here as a hospital chaplain for many-many years now and she will be deeply missed. Today was her last official day here before she moves to upstate New York where she will reside at the Mother House (aka - Headquarters) of the Allegany Sisters. #StMarysMedicalCenter #PBHNProud #StrongerTogetherForYou #Retirement

Last month our Stroke Survivor Support group got together. This is a great opportunity for survivors to come together in a supportive atmosphere along with family, caregivers and friends. Bella and Maddie work hard to create this caring community and bring them together to discuss the physical and emotional journey that is part of recovering from a stroke

Technology plays an important role in healthcare. As part of Technology Tuesday, we are going to learn more about nuclear medicine at St. Mary's Medical Center. Doctors use nuclear medicine tests to diagnose, evaluate, and treat various diseases. These include cancer, heart disease, gastrointestinal, endocrine, or neurological disorders. Nuclear medicine determines how the body is functioning at a cellular level. Nuclear medicine uses radioactive tracers (radiopharmaceuticals) to assess bodily functions and to diagnose and treat disease. Specially designed cameras allow doctors to track the path of these radioactive tracers. #StMarysMedicalCenter #PBHNProud #StrongerTogetherForYou #TechnologyTuesday #TechTuesday #NuclearMedicine
