  • Congrats to Shahan, our newest Advanced EMT. He joined Sterling Rescue after graduating from high school and is now finishing his final year in college. Even with his college schedule, he says he stayed as an active volunteer member with Sterling Rescue because of his “love for the work we do and the community we serve” and adds that, “after joining SVRS, I quickly found that there is nothing more rewarding than helping people in their time of need, especially when the help we provide is based on our own training, skills, and experience. I enjoyed expanding my skill set by completing my AEMT training and I look forward to better serving our community with this new role. ” AEMT Shahan also had this to say about volunteering at Sterling Rescue. “I also love how our team of experienced and charismatic providers all hail from different backgrounds and stages of life but come together to serve a common goal.” AEMT Shahan is a great example of empowered to save, inspired to serve! Come join us and meet new people and learn new and exciting things while making a real difference. https://lnkd.in/eaxydXqR

  • Our members are doing great things! Marybeth Henry was a TEMS Star Presenter at the 33rd annual Tidewater EMS Expo, held in Chesapeake, Virginia, from May 14 to 19. Henry presented five classes on Mental Health topics (covering both patients and providers) and two National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Leadership Classes across the span of the conference. She was one of only two presenters from the Northern Virginia region. Henry joined Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad in 2010. She currently teaches high-school EMT at the Loudoun County Fire Rescue Academy and is an advocate instructor for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. She brings more than 30 years of lived mental health experience to the table and is a leading advocate for mental health education and care, not just for patients, but for providers as well. She has been recognized as Member of the Year by Sterling Rescue and currently functions as a member of the SVRS Training Division. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University.

  • Empowered to Save. Inspired to Serve. That means something to us. Volunteerism empowers individuals to find their purpose, to take their passion and turn it into meaningful change. When each of us, in our own way, answers the call to make a difference, we make progress in solving our most persistent problems, and create stronger communities and a more just society. This National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognize and thank volunteers who lend their use their time, talent, voice and resources to meet the critical needs of our communities. The theme for National Volunteer Week is Celebrate Service – an opportunity to shine a light on the people and causes that inspire us to serve. At Sterling Rescue, our volunteers are truly empowered to save and inspired to serve, and while we love to shine the light of them to celebrate what they have done, they all shine their own lights every day in our community, helping people when they need it most. We need you to help us, and shine your own light. Join us and be a part of something amazing. https://lnkd.in/euCeAEnH

  • SVRS is proud of our Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce Valor Award winners that were honored last evening.   In May 2023, a gentleman collapsed from a cardiac arrest at a local store. A nurse witnessed the event and immediately initiated CPR. Others in the store called 911 and activated an emergency response. Shopping in an adjacent store, Chief Harasek was alerted to events and rushed to assist. She joined in and continued life-saving measures.   A Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), successfully delivering one shock. Medic 635 and Rescue 635 arrived on the scene and swiftly took over, following the High Performance CPR model. The coordinated efforts paid off — the patient regained a pulse and began speaking. The patient was transported to the INOVA Loudoun Hospital.   Not only are we proud of these award winners, this event shows that knowing CPR and using an AED can save lives! Join us and be a lifesaver!
