Amidst torrential downpour, I was able to attend the Amazon Web Services (AWS) AI Exec Leaders dinner at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm and I am so glad I was invited and made it. Around 30 execs were in attendance for the keynotes and dinner and the information shared amongst the group was incredibly valuable. Todd Pond hosted this seamless event and moderated the firside chat. The keynote speakers Tom Soderstrom and Steven Lee had amazing insights on Generative AI (its really IA Intelligence Assitance), its possibilities, and how to carve out competitive advantage when using it as well as building your teams. IA is not here to replace people. Its here to help people be better. UpSkilling is key! During dinner I had a chance to sit at an amazing table. I was able to learn and gather insights from Mark Stephenson, Nathan Garcia, CFP®, and Bernie Arnason. This was an amazing learning and networking event. I’m appreciative for the opportunity to connect with peers and grow my community…

There are several reasons we do not and will not train the model we created in 2020 on synthetic data. This article encapsulates just one of those reasons. “When you see the mythical Ouroboros, it’s perfectly logical to think, “Well, that won’t last.” A potent symbol — swallowing your own tail — but difficult in practice. It may be the case for AI as well, which, according to a new study, may be at risk of “model collapse” after a few rounds of being trained on data it generated itself. In a paper published in Nature, British and Canadian researchers led by Ilia Shumailov at Oxford show that today’s machine learning models are fundamentally vulnerable to a syndrome they call “model collapse.” As they write in the paper’s introduction: “We discover that indiscriminately learning from data produced by other models causes “model collapse” — a degenerative process whereby, over time, models forget the true underlying data distribution…” How does this happen, and why? The process is actually quite easy to understand. AI models are pattern-matching systems at heart…” You can not take shortcuts when building AI. It takes time… Full article here. https://lnkd.in/exbpPRbE

A little over 8 months into this move to Michigan I finally decided to lean into the place professionally - Shout out to A2 New Tech for hosting a great tech meetup and pitch event. Here's a few pics of the back of tech enthusiasts' heads: 🤖 🤖 🤖 When Clutch was a smaller company, I used to attend these types of meetups all the time -- felt a bit nostalgic. For those that aren't hip to it -- the Ann Arbor tech scene is makin' a play for it!!! 💙 💛

Hey there. I will be in Los Angeles on Wednesday morning for a few days. During the day I will have free time and would love to meet with people in the Tech Ecosysytem out there. I do intend to go for at least one hike w/ Grant Page while I am there. So if anyone wants to connect I would be happy to do so. I will even share with you the best Bagel spot in LA.

The State of Michigan’s current Tech ecosystem is not great when it comes to helping Early stage (pre-seed, seed) High growth, Tech startups. It will be soon!! Black Tech Saturdays is making sure of it. No matter what sector you want to build in BTS wants you to succeed. The Clean energy sector will create over $2 trillion new dollars. The conversation with Darren Riley, Nana Arkorful, Natalie King, and Carla Walker-Miller, held around this topic on Saturday, at Newlab, at Michigan Central was amazing and the room was filled with people to learn more about Clean Energy!! Alexa Turnage and Johnnie Turnage have created a community that fosters inclusiveness for all founders in all industries. I appreciate them every single day for helping all of us get further, faster…

I had the chance to attend the big opening event at Michigan Central station because one of my friends headlined the event. The Michigan Central team sure knows how to plan an event. The lineup of guests were incredible! I got to see Diana Ross perform live in Detroit! Thats something I never imagined. Congratulations to everyone involved in making that event possible. I know how much hardwork goes into them. Keep planting seeds and KEEP GOING!!!

I think the question most early stage founders hear the most is “when is it coming out.” Which at most events feels like small talk with no genuine interest. When I get this question at Black Tech Saturdays it is filled with genuine interest and eagerness. The amount of people that approach me on Saturdays asking when will the Stock Pal, Inc. app be available and the growing interest in Fintech that started with a handful of people and is now hundreds of people is astounding. As BTS scales and has ran programing on the same day in Detroit and Baltimore so do the companies and people that continue to show up. The progress everyone has made since those early events is unheard of in any other ecosystem. Tech is a tool to be used to help everyone get further faster. And Alexa Turnage and Johnnie Turnage have fostered an environment and scaled an organization to help all of us do that. Thank you…
