Students are heading back to campus across the country, and with that comes a wave of excitement and energy. To celebrate, we are highlighting three post secondary institutions and organizations working hard to strengthen the link between education and opportunity: 💼 Arizona State University's Work+ is designed to empower student workers to engage more meaningfully with their work. Their affiliated program, the Work+Collective, is a University-led consortium of 17 two- and four-year institutions across the country working to redesign student employment. https://lnkd.in/eqRWpEPy 📜 In partnership with Coursera, The University of Texas System recently launched the microcredential program, Texas Credentials for the Future. By doing so, they’re providing their different universities opportunities to close the gap between the skills employers need and what students learn in a degree program. https://lnkd.in/gGGSi7hf 💻 A program partnership between Seattle nonprofit, Mentors in Tech (MinT), and a local community college, Green River College aims to improve opportunities for students to partner with a mentor in the tech industry and work on classroom projects based on real-world technology problems. https://lnkd.in/gJM4NN-C To all the faculty, administrative staff, parents, and students: we wish you all a wonderful start to the school year! #BackToSchool

Community colleges are “our country’s cornerstone institutions for accessible education and workforce training. They play an indispensable role in creating career pathways for all adults.” – Christina Yancey, Vice President of Workforce at the American Institutes for Research The American Institutes for Research recently conducted a deep dive into #workforce training programs to offer valuable insights for community colleges. Here are their three key takeaways: 🤝 Engage employers at every step of program development and implementation, aligning programs with labor market needs. 🎒 Offer student comprehensive support services with one-on-one guidance to help students access the supports they need to be successful. 💼 Prioritize the development of deep workplace readiness skills alongside occupational skills.
#CommunityColleges are essential providers of the #education and training that people need to move into high-wage, high-demand careers. 💼 This #LaborDay, AIR #workforce experts Elizabeth Rutschow and Amy Feygin share key takeaways about what community colleges can learn from the success of #WorkforceDevelopment programs like Per Scholas, Year Up, and Project QUEST, Inc.. Their report identifies strategies like tailoring programs to #labor market needs, providing comprehensive student support, and prioritizing #workplace readiness skills that can be adapted to community college settings. The U.S. Surgeon General, Vivek H. Murthy, calls mental health “the defining public health crisis of our time.” This won’t come as a surprise to practitioners and leaders in workforce development and education programs. But equipping teams with the tools they need to adequately support workforce participants — while ensuring staff have enough holistic support themselves — is no easy feat. A new white paper from Corporation for a Skilled Workforce (CSW) and InsideTrack, From Crisis to Resilience: Addressing trauma and toxic stress in workforce development and education systems, dives in to the impact of trauma and toxic stress on staff and participants and offers actionable trauma-informed, healing-centered frameworks for practitioners and leaders to use in the field. Download your copy today, and join us for our webinar tomorrow where our panel will share how they’ve implemented trauma-informed approaches in support of students, job seekers, those returning to the workforce — and their own staff. https://lnkd.in/gGMgGAvi #TraumaInformedCare #WorkforceDevelopment #EducationSystems #MentalHealthAwareness #HealingCentered #TraumaSupport #ResilienceBuilding #SupportStrategies

Accessing robust and timely state data information is crucial when it comes to strengthening the link between education and opportunity. Across the country, state governments are creating ways that allow their education and workforce data to work together. Strada worked closely with state data agencies and higher education executives to identify 10 critical elements that contribute to the capacity of state data systems. These elements are organized into four distinct functions: 📁 Collect education and employment outcomes data that include detailed student- and program-level data for all postsecondary programs, including noncredit and nondegree programs. 🤝 Integrate education and employment data and establish data-sharing partnerships to track graduate outcomes. 📊 Provide students, families, and other stakeholders with accessible education and employment data that can inform decision-making and assure quality and value. 📈 Drive impact by sharing state data-driven insights with policymakers, institutions, and employers seeking a comprehensive view in how to best fill talent shortages, develop in-demand programs, and prepare students for success.
