The Wall Street Journal recently highlighted how #PostSecondary education institutions are implementing work-based learning opportunities, such as co-ops, as a value-benefit while obtaining a four-year bachelor’s degree. “For families and businesses alike, the debate isn’t over just soaring tuition costs and student debt loads, but also whether U.S. universities are producing the kind of talent that companies say they need. Five years after graduation, nearly half of workers with bachelor’s degrees are in jobs that don’t make use of their college credentials or skills, according to a recent analysis of millions of graduates’ career paths by the labor analytics firm The Burning Glass Institute and the nonprofit Strada Education Foundation.” https://lnkd.in/eRJqGvuR

It’s not too late for students to fill out the #FinancialAid application so that they’re ready for college. ✏️ National College Attainment Network (NCAN) is encouraging students to #DotheFAFSA at fafsa.gov

The National College Attainment Network (NCAN) recently published an article on the importance of data, and how data can create equitable processes and decisions toward students' success during and post-college. “Data plays a vital role in measuring and addressing gaps in student outcomes. A set of metrics have been developed to track early momentum toward completion, such as credit accumulation and gateway course completion. These leading indicators help institutions intervene early and ensure students stay on track for success. Additionally, measuring post-college outcomes is essential to determine if students are earning credentials of value that lead to economic opportunity and mobility.”

As students head back to school, many adults are also returning to the classroom to finish their degrees in order to pursue a job with better pay. Travis Reindl, Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer, spoke with Scripps News about the return on investment on completing a postsecondary education. He also shared recommendations for those restarting their college journey: 📈 In every state in the country, a very significant portion of people will see a significant increase in return on their learning investment if they finish their education and obtain a degree. 🏫 Community colleges and universities play an important role in preparing students for solid career paths. “The real workhorses in our education and workforce system are the local #CommunityColleges or the local state university just down the road." 💼 #Internships matter. “Think about what practical experience you can get and build as you go back to school.” Watch the full interview: https://lnkd.in/ewxQp7Xy

We are lucky to get a chance to collaborate with many nonprofit organizations who work tirelessly to create a positive impact for their communities and for future generations. ❤️ Recently, our team got a chance to volunteer alongside Million Meal Movement, a nonprofit who works with thousands of volunteers a year to pack and donate millions of meals to Indiana food pantries. #NationalNonProfitDay

Thank you Wil Del Pilar, Senior Vice President at EdTrust, and Noe Ortega, Commissioner at Massachusetts Department of Education for joining our own Gabriella Gomez, Executive Vice President of Policy, Advocacy, and Communications, and Nichole Torpey-Saboe, Vice President of Research, at the 2024 SHEEO (State Higher Education Executive Officers Association) Education Policy Conference in Washington, DC. It was a thoughtful discussion about the State Opportunity Index, a first-of-its-kind effort to assess state performance on the connection between education and opportunity in five key areas: 📈 Effective use of state longitudinal data systems that connect education and training to employment. 🤝 Greater alignment of postsecondary programs with good jobs employers are seeking to fill. 📝 Coaching and personalized education-to-employment guidance. 💲 Affordable access to quality education and training. 💼 Quality work-based learning experiences. One of the great aspirations of the United States has long been the idea of equitable pathways to opportunity for all. And discussions like this — where there’s a chance to talk more about the implications of these metrics and how they can be used in states to shape policy, regulatory, and funding decisions — are important as we all work to better serve students. #SHEEO2024
