Detecting melanoma at an early stage is crucial. Keep in mind, though, that melanomas can arise anywhere on the skin, even in areas where the sun doesn't shine. The 🔑 to early detection is understanding the ABCDE's of melanoma. 🅰️ Asymmetry: If a mole or spot isn't symmetrical, it could be a warning sign of melanoma. 🅱️ Border: Melanomas often have uneven or blurry edges, unlike the smooth borders of benign moles. 🆕 Color: Multiple colors within a mole, or colors that change or spread, may indicate melanoma. Be mindful of shades of brown, black, red, or blue. 🔍 Diameter: While melanomas can be small, most are larger than the size of a pencil eraser (about 6mm or ¼ inch). Rare, amelanotic melanomas are colorless. 💢 Evolving: Monitor moles for any changes over time. This includes changes in size, shape, color, or texture. #stratadx #dermatology #pathology #MelanomaAwareness #ABCDEsOfMelanoma #SkinHealth #dermatopathology #skincancer #melanoma
