Farewell Old Campus! Thank you for 70 great years. Witnessing the reunion of past and present teachers and students during the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Minnie J. Niblack Elementary School in Lake City, Florida, was inspiring this week. Our team had the privilege of helping start the demolition of the old campus. We also had the honor of hearing from Superintendent Lex Carswell and Principal Makeba Murphy. This new, state-of-the-art school is a successful prototype design we adapted to meet Columbia County's needs. The facility will span over 60,000 square feet and accommodate more than 500 students, all while preserving the surrounding wetlands. We are thrilled to collaborate with Columbia County School District and Gilbane, Inc. on this transformative project for the community. We eagerly anticipate the completion in 2025!

🖥️Project Spotlight🔬 Remember that impressive renovation of the Trailside Fab Lab Technology Center at Northern Virginia Community College's Manassas campus? We designed that! Our team reimagined the two-story atrium lobby into a stunning centerpiece. We designed a free-standing elevator shaft with a hydraulic passenger elevator, adding both functionality and modern flair. The space gleams with new finishes, and custom-designed stainless steel railings grace the second-level balconies and curving staircase.✨ But the focus wasn't just on looks! We designed four cutting-edge laboratory classrooms equipped for electronics, mechatronics, fluid hydraulics, and computer drafting. Students also have access to a fully-loaded wood shop and a dynamic "maker lab" featuring a 3D printer, a thermoforming center, and a treasure trove of tools for crafting anything they can imagine.🛠️ This project exemplifies our commitment to creating #BetterPlansBetterPlaces with quality, integrity, and service. #Brockenbrough #StratusTeam

Witnessing firsthand how Dutch cities prioritize people over cars has us dreaming of a South Florida where: 🚲 Design matters! There’s a new kind of development going up in Brickell. With granite countertops and a balcony, this building’s 600-square foot units will go for no more $1,700 a month — not bad for a one bedroom in Miami these days. Just blocks away from a Metro station and Brickell City Center, this is just the kind of place where many of South Florida’s young professionals want to live. But this building isn’t for just anyone. It’s specifically designed for a certain kind of renter — public school employees. There are 10 apartments here, inside the brand new middle school building for Southside Preparatory Academy. The main campus is a few blocks away. The district is developing this affordable housing project with the Miami-Dade County Public Housing & Community Development department. According to a county spokesperson, the units will be limited to households earning 80% of the area median income or less — and MDCPS employees will get priority on applying for the apartments. Under limits calculated by the Florida Housing Finance Corporation for Miami-Dade County in 2024, monthly rent for the one bedroom apartments cannot exceed $1,703. Perez says the development is geared toward “our young teachers." “And also our other district employees. Our cafeteria workers. Our bus drivers. Our custodians. All those types of other employees that can apply to get an apartment at one of these schools … which is going to help immensely with their monthly rental rate.” Tap the link below to continue reading.
