Big news for the fight against plastic pollution! 👏🌍 The U.S. is planning a significant step forward in supporting a legally binding global limit on plastic production and pushing for the phase-out of harmful plastics and toxic chemicals. This change in stance is crucial as we work toward a stronger Global Plastics Treaty. The Surfrider Foundation is thrilled to see this leadership from the U.S. government and will continue advocating for robust measures to protect our ocean, waves, and beaches. We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and Surfrider supporter, Andrew Blauschild. Andrew was central to the fabric of the Montauk surf culture, a place he dearly loved. We were honored by his generous donation of art to support Surfrider, and thrilled to have him join us at our recent One Ocean event. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. Victory! 🙌 New Marine Reserve Established in Puerto Rico 🌊 We are thrilled to announce that the Surfrider Foundation and our coalition partners have achieved a significant milestone by establishing Submerged Gardens Natural Reserve of Vega Baja and Manatí on the north coast of Puerto Rico. This new marine reserve protects 43,701 acres of vital marine ecosystems, including the largest assembly of Elkhorn coral in the Caribbean. The reserve serves as a living laboratory for coral restoration and enhances coastal resilience against climate change. 🪸🌎 Thanks to the local communities, environmental organizations, and authorities that helped make this victory possible! Planning a beach day? Don’t just check the weather — check the water quality too. 🌊 With water sports on the global stage over the last few weeks, poor water quality was making headlines around the world. Athletes were exposed to potentially unsafe water conditions in the Seine River, which can cause health issues like rashes, stomach flu, and even severe infections. That’s why Surfrider's Blue Water Task Force is stepping in where state testing falls short, ensuring you know where it's safe to surf, swim, and play. The water quality data collected is used to protect public safety, raise awareness, and inform solutions to restore clean water.
