Symptone (pronounced SIMP-tuhm) is a pioneering nonprofit dedicated to revolutionizing the understanding and diagnosis of medical conditions on BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) skin tones. Our mission is to promote representation of BIPOC skin tones in medical textbooks, raise awareness about how different skin conditions appear on individuals of color, and challenge misconceptions in healthcare. Through our impactful blog and educational initiatives, we empower individuals with crucial knowledge about their skin health and advocate for better education and awareness around dermatological conditions on BIPOC skin tones. Join us at Symptone where we are bridging gaps and healing skins, one tone at a time!

Skin conditions are a universal health concern that impacts individuals across the globe. However, the manifestation of these conditions varies significantly based on skin tone. This diversity in presentation underscores the complexity of skin health and the need for tailored treatment approaches. It is crucial to recognize that skin conditions do not discriminate; they affect people of all ethnicities and backgrounds. By acknowledging the unique challenges faced by individuals with different skin tones, we can work towards developing more inclusive and effective skincare solutions. Ultimately, understanding the diverse ways skin conditions present themselves is essential for advancing dermatological care and promoting skin health for everyone. As we continue on our journey for healthcare equality and accurate representation, Symptone wants to talk about widespread skin conditions that can affect anyone, including those in our community such as psoriasis - a chronic autoimmune disease that causes skin cells to grow too quickly. Normally, psoriasis appears as red, scaly patches of skin however, on darker skin tones it can appear as discolored patches (ranging from dark brown, purple, and gray), thickened skin, scaly patches, nail changes, and joint pain.
