About us
Founded in 1920, the Tampa Museum of Art inspires the residents of the Tampa Bay region and others around the world by providing engaging exhibitions and innovative educational programs that emphasize ancient, modern, and contemporary art. The Museum houses one of the largest Greek and Roman antiquities collections in the southeastern United States. As one of the region’s largest museums devoted to the art of our time, the Museum’s permanent collection also embraces sculpture, photography, painting, new media, and more. New online programs add to the year-round studio art classes, lectures, and tours that provide children, teens, and adults with opportunities to discover new perspectives and learn different art-making techniques. Likewise, through unique community partnerships, the Museum offers outreach programs that provide art therapy interventions and meaningful modes of self-expression to vulnerable segments of the population. Located in the heart of downtown Tampa, next to the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and Tampa’s Riverwalk, the Tampa Museum of Art leads as both a cultural institution and a community museum dedicated to celebrating the diversity of its home city. General Hours The Tampa Museum of Art is open seven days a week, Monday – Sunday 10 am – 5 pm and Thursdays from 10 am – 8 pm.

Yesterday, we were tickled pink because it was National Pink Day, so let's paint the town pink and spread some rosy cheer! 💗🌸 Isn't this piece by Elisabeth Condon the embodiment of pink or what? The foliage growing near her Tampa studio, traditional Chinese scroll painting, vintage fabrics, and wallpaper samples inspire Condon's paintings of tropical flora. She often isolates an object or pattern from these source materials and incorporates it as a central image or texture in her paintings. In "American Pastorale," a chrysanthemum anchors the painting. To create various layers in this work, Condon applied color with expressive brushwork and poured paint directly onto the canvas. The artist's palette of intense reds, oranges, and pinks, as well as cooler blues and greens, evokes Florida and Southern California's vibrant landscapes. Iridescent glitter adds texture and luminosity to the surface. What's your favorite shade of pink? 🧁👚 Image: Elisabeth Condon (American, b. 1959) American Pastorale, 2016 Acrylic, latex, glitter on linen Tampa Museum of Art, Museum Purchase with funds provided by Pat Michelsen and Eric Dean, 2017.001 . . . #TampaMuseumofArt #Painter #AcrylicPainting #PrettyInPink #PinkFlowers #Pink #PinkClothing #PinkDressDownDay #NationalPinkDay #PinkDay #Flower

For this Throwback Thursday, let's take a look at this ancient wine glass. This wine cup on a high stem from Athens dates to the Late Helladic period, when the Mycenaean civilization reached its height. It's amazing to think about how detailed the cutlery used to be for drinking! Maybe it's time to bring back wine glasses with handles?.. 🍷🏛️ Image: Mycenaean Cup on Stem Ceramic vessel (kylix); Attica, Greece; Mycenaean period, ca. 1400-1375 BCE.
