“Due to the challenging economic environment, there has been a decline in venture funding for company partners, impacting both revenue and fellow placements,” Venture for America CEO Carrie Murphy wrote. “Together with economic headwinds and shifting priorities, this has led to ongoing fundraising challenges.”
Sad, important story here: Technical.ly reports that Venture For America has shuttered https://lnkd.in/e3pPSHij Sameer Rao was following here, and pieced it together after a thoughtful letter from Carrie Murphy. Thinking of her, Eric Somerville, Andrew Yang and so many longtime partners and friends. Lots more to this story and a bigger trend we've followed closely. Sorry to those who have lost roles.
Venture for America, which bet on entrepreneurship to revitalize cities, has abruptly shut down

Once again for Technical.ly, we are finding the local angle. We've been thinking about what a Josh Shapiro VP pick could mean for PA since we heard he was in the running. Now that we know it's not him, though, here's what that means for Pittsburgh. https://lnkd.in/ePS9iiss Want to write stories like this covering tech and the innovation in economy in Pittsburgh? I'm late on this but I'm so proud that Technical.ly was nominated for "Journalism Impact" for our massive THRIVING reporting project, thanks to the well-regarded LION: Local Independent Online News Publishers. Their writeup: "Technical.ly’s “Thriving” project explored economic mobility across American cities. To inform the project, they partnered with community organizations to host focus groups. They published over 50 multilingual articles and a 10-episode podcast, making the content accessible in English, Chinese, and Spanish. The content was broadly disseminated through online platforms, radio broadcasts, and a print magazine, ensuring diverse audience access and fostering informed community and structural dialogues." Our own Danya Henninger will represent us at the awards event in Chicago next month but regardless of the result, boy oh boy, I'm so proud of this project. Big credit goes to Sophie Bryan, Elinor Haider, Octavia Howell, Jun Phue, Sandra Shea and the whole The Pew Charitable Trusts team; the indefatigable Jessica Richards and Shawn McCaney at William Penn Foundation; Ellen Kwon and then John Churchill at Knight Foundation and so many of the Technically team, from Aileen Connolly McNulty, Sabrina Vourvoulias, Sameer Rao and Julie Zeglen, to Vincent Better, MBA and Hanae Victoria Mason and Christina Kristofic, to Paige Gross, Sarah Huffman, Alanah Nichole Davis, Michaela Althouse and Holly Quinn. Thanks partners Alex Lewis, John L. Myers, Michael O'Bryan and the public face of our audio documentary Nichole Currie!! I always overlook major contributors for something this big, so hey lmk just say THANK YOU!

The latest round of EDA funding for tech hubs left both two big tech ecosystems off the list. With $500 million being dispersed to other tech hubs around the country, is there still hope for Philly and Baltimore? Editor Sameer Rao talks about the reactions and path forward for skipped tech hubs that were vying for Phase 2 funding. https://lnkd.in/gccJ-RRZ #EDAfunding #TechHubs #Baltimore #Philly #TechnicallyBTS
