The world of Venture Capital is undergoing a seismic shift! There are more and more areas of spend and income that women are leading. The flow of trillions of dollars into women's hands is a trend being driven mostly by demographics. Women now control about a third — or $10 trillion — of total U.S. household assets, according to McKinsey & Company. Women-led companies are leading the charge in terms of innovating solutions in areas that women know best. For example sectors like health, wellness, education tech, future of work, commerce enablement, ecommerce come to mind. Aavia (Aagya Mathur + Aya Suzuki), CENTURY Tech (Priya Lakhani OBE), Compt (Amy Spurling), Good-Loop (Amy Williams), inspace (Elena Beloshapkova), Landing (Ellie Buckingham + Miri Buckland), Velma (Justin Curhan + Lisa Jiang) and Vizer (Dylan Barbour + Samantha Pantazopoulos) – just a few examples of our 60+ investments so far. Each fund has its unique vision on how to be the guiding force for a startup’s success. It often boils down to a blend of connections and expertise. This alchemy is akin to making Chai. While our support model is an ever-evolving entity, the current linchpin is the network effect. To me, it means the value of a community compounds as more individuals join. #VentureCapital will need thousands of talented women over the coming years to emerge as check writers at top funds to ensure that capital gets deployed well, given these emerging investment themes. We had 100+ attendees at our Women’s History Month Celebration Event at Rise, created by Barclays with representation from companies like Alpha Partners, The BFM Fund, BMO, Chief, Gunderson Dettmer, Female Founders Fund, Jefferies, J.P. Morgan, Purple Sage Ventures, Tekfen Ventures, Union Heritage, and more! As I said in my opening remarks at our event, together we are taking a stand to support women.
