We love seeing St. Francis Milwaukee Church in full bloom! #TeamTERRA enhanced the site with a new Narthex addition and adjacent parking for residents, staff and parishioners. The parking lot features both asphalt and permeable pavers, offering a sustainable solution through green design and water detention. Our landscape team also designed two courtyards around the Narthex addition, blending the new architecture with the existing landscape. Special thanks to the project architect, MKB Architects, for the stunning photos!

In 2021, the Friends of Sears Sunken Garden (FSSG) enlisted renowned landscape architects Piet Oudolf and Roy Diblick to revitalize the historic garden. The new design includes a reflecting pool, new plantings, and improved accessibility, and restoration to the historic pergola. TERRA is excited to be working with FSSG and Urban Landscape Collaborative to help realize the meaningful improvements. Supported by a grant from the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, the project aims to raise additional funding for construction. The Sears Sunken Garden remains a community space, continuing its legacy of accessibility and welcoming both new and returning residents to North Lawndale. As we wrap up our Landscape Architecture project spotlight series, we're excited to highlight Peoria's Riverfront Revitalization. Since 2018, TERRA has been transforming a 26-acre parcel along the Illinois River into a vibrant community and economic hub. Our flood-resilient design integrates downtown Peoria with the river, featuring amenities like a pavilion, river promenade, adventure park, and kayak launch. With FEMA funding secured for a flood wall, construction begins in 2025. Stay tuned for updates!

In this week’s Landscape Architecture project spotlight series, we're excited to showcase the transformation of DePaul College Prep High School. Strategically executed over multiple phases, this project has significantly boosted enrollment and revitalized the neighborhood. Retrofitting an old community college into a vibrant high school campus, the site renovations included a new drop-off area and entry plaza, an artificial turf field for football, soccer, and lacrosse with permanent bleachers, a press box, bathrooms, a four-lane track and a long-jump runway. Additionally, we added native pollinator gardens with four-season planting, several sculptures, memorial benches, and an ADA-compliant vegetable garden with raised beds and gathering areas to support an active gardening program. We're proud to contribute to a project that enhances community engagement and provides a thriving environment for students.
