We develop tools for unlocking the natural products of biosynthetic gene clusters, even ones that are cryptic or not expressed under laboratory conditions. In another recent paper out of Christine Beemelmanns' Lab at Universität des Saarlandes and published in Royal Society of Chemistry Advances, the authors examined a cryptic cluster called 'mdk'. Terra Bioforge captured the 36-kb gene cluster using our DNAtrap™ and cloned it to our pDualP expression vector. This dual-inducible expression system activated the mdk cluster, allowing the authors to characterize its green-pigmented product seongomycin. https://lnkd.in/gp7r9tAW

Our technology enables rapid characterization of biosynthetic gene clusters and their corresponding natural products. In a recent paper out of Christine Beemelmanns' Lab at Saarland University and published in Nature Portfolio Communications Chemistry, the authors surveyed the chemical diversity of macrolactam natural products. To facilitate characterization of these compounds, the researchers turned to our DNAtrap™ cloning method to capture the intact 105-kb cluster from the native host. The captured gene cluster was expressed in a heterologous host confirming that the pathway encodes for production of the ciromicin macrolactam.
