  • Corporal Dustin Henderson represented the Texas Highway Patrol at the North American Inspector's Championship (NAIC) in Indianapolis, IN, last week. Not only did he take Second Place Overall at NAIC, he was also named the recipient of the John Youngblood Award of Excellence! "NAIC contestants voted to present the John Youngblood Award of Excellence to Dustin Henderson with the Texas Department of Public Safety for exemplifying the spirit of cooperation, leadership, a professional image, dedication to the profession, a positive attitude, organizational ability and congeniality. The John Youngblood Award of Excellence is an honor NAIC contestants bestow upon a fellow competitor who exemplifies high standards and unwavering dedication to the profession. It’s the only award whose winner is selected by their peers." Congratulations Corporal Henderson, and way to represent DPS!

  • This weekend, we had the privilege of honoring fallen Texas Ranger Stanley Guffey with the dedication of a memorial highway in his name. Ranger Guffey began his career with DPS in October 1968 and was stationed at Brady. On January 22, 1987, Ranger Guffey was killed in the line of duty while helping to rescue a 2-year-old girl who was being held by a kidnapper who had already killed an employee of the girl’s family. Ranger Guffey was a true hero who faithfully served the people of Texas before tragically losing his life. This memorial highway serves as a permanent mark and reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by Ranger Guffey. We want to thank everyone who joined us on Saturday to honor Ranger Guffey. His legacy continues to live on in the hearts of everyone at DPS, and his service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. – John 15:13
