The crumbling Alewife garage needs to be torn down and rebuilt/replaced. Unfortunately, that will cost some big bucks. Fortunately, the T has land nearby that it's willing to redevelop. Translation: Maybe a developer can address this parking issue by building something big that includes a new garage. (Separately, I can't help but remark how sad it is that a giant concrete structure can fall apart in only two decades. My house is 100 years old and requires less maintenance.) https://lnkd.in/eMnAf-wW via @BostonGlobe

It has taken me a year, but it was worth the wait to score an interview with Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown to talk about his "Black Wall Street" idea. Last July, after inking at the time the richest contract in NBA history, Jaylen vowed to use some of the money to help close the racial wealth gap in Boston. He has been working Malia Lazu, Kimberly Tignor, Segun Idowu, Yscaira J., John Matthew Borders, and many others to shape his vision for Boston XChange, which launched today and aims to generate $5 billion in generational wealth in communities of color. The first program is the Boston Creator Incubator + Accelerator that will give out up to $100K in grant money to 10 entrepreneurs in the creative economy in greater Boston. Applications are due Aug. 15. I love the focus on creators of color - the fashion designers, video game developers, filmmakers, musicians. Our innovation economy is focused on churning out tech and life science companies, yet BXC will help Boston build a new startup muscle at the intersection of business and culture. While Celtics fans appreciate the NBA banners, Jaylen told me he hopes BXC will be "be part of my legacy while I’m here in Boston.” More in my Boston Globe Media column (only a couple of basketball puns)👇 🏀 ☘

Sometimes the right move is to do nothing. But sometimes it’s a gamble. The labor market is slowing and the risks of it deteriorating further are growing. Yet the Federal Reserve on Wednesday ended another policy meeting with a decision to leave interest rates at a 23-year high. Fed chair Jerome Powell said in a post-meeting news conference that the central bank would wait until at least mid-September to cut rates, even though inflation has already cooled to the point where its 2 percent target is in plain sight. In my latest Trendlines column for Boston Globe Media, I argue that waiting for more evidence of inflation’s retreat jeopardizes the Fed’s “soft landing,” the return to more normal price increases without a painful spike in unemployment.

The Federal Reserve left its benchmark lending rate in the range of 5.25 percent to 5.5 percent — right where it’s been for the past year. In the latest Trendlines edition, Boston Globe Media columnist Larry Edelman argues that The Fed is being too cautious and should be planning much farther down the road. 📈 Read it here. A week ago, I wrote here that I've been hearing for years about who might be the 'next Jack Connors' when the reality is there can be only one Jack Connors. Moments later, I was assigned a piece to write about who could be the 'next Jack Connors.' Needless to say, after several days of reporting, I came to the same conclusion. https://lnkd.in/euteW4qj via @BostonGlobe
