The number of meals served, beds provided, or classes offered doesn’t indicate success at reducing homelessness. A record 650,000 Americans were homeless on a single night in January 2023, according to the most recent point-in-time report released by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. That amounts to one out of every 500 people nationwide. Morvarid Rahmani, associate professor of operations management at Georgia Institute of Technology, writes for The Conversation US. https://bit.ly/3LNj6Xk

Is building a diverse board a struggle ubiquitous to nonprofits? An innovative solution — inviting grantees to join — ultimately made Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund - SV2 a more effective grant maker. By offering leadership positions to former grantees whose life experiences reflect the people served by the nonprofits the fund supports, the group changed philanthropy’s traditional power dynamics. The outcome? An improved connection to the communities and organizations it serves. The Chronicle's Jim Rendon reports for #TheCommons.
