Mental Health Alert: The Hidden Impact of Heat We're proud to share that Asly Guevara, a dedicated professional from The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD, recently appeared on Univision 45 Houston to discuss an often-overlooked issue: the impact of extreme heat on mental health. Key points from Asly's expert discussion: 1. Cognitive Function: Heat can impair concentration and decision-making abilities. 2. Sleep Quality: High temperatures often lead to sleep disturbances, affecting overall well-being. 3. Emotional Regulation: Excessive heat may trigger mood swings and heightened irritability. 4. Stress Levels: Prolonged heat exposure can exacerbate stress and anxiety. As we navigate another challenging summer, it's crucial for both individuals and organizations to recognize these signs. Employers should be aware of how heat might affect their workforce's mental health and productivity. We commend Univision 45 Houston for bringing attention to this important topic and thank Asly for sharing her expertise. Let's work together to create environments that support both physical and mental health during extreme weather conditions. https://lnkd.in/g34aTFCW #MentalHealthAwareness #WorkplaceWellness #HeatWave #PublicHealth #TheHarrisCenter #UnivisionHouston

July is Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month, we honor Bebe Moore Campbell, a trailblazing author and advocate who worked tirelessly to end stigma and support mental health in minoritized communities. Mental health impacts everyone, yet many still lack access to crucial support and resources. Stigma, shame, and healthcare inequity continue to be significant barriers preventing individuals from seeking the help they need. As professionals and community members, we have a responsibility to carry forward Campbell's legacy by: 1. Raising awareness about mental health disparities 2. Promoting culturally competent care 3. Advocating for equitable access to mental health resources 4. Challenging stigma in our workplaces and communities NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) provides valuable resources for those looking to make a difference. I encourage you to visit their website to learn how you can participate in Mental Health Awareness Month and contribute to this important cause: https://lnkd.in/gKPUgPX Together, we can create a world where everyone, regardless of background, feels empowered to prioritize their mental wellbeing. Let's use our professional networks and platforms to amplify this message and drive positive change. #ShadesofMentalHealth #BebeMoorelegacy #TheHarrisCenter
