Black-owned businesses in the U.S. drive more than $200 billion in annual revenue and support more than three and a half million jobs—many of those in the food and beverage industry. That’s why the LEE Inititative, #JBFA 2024 Humanitarian of the Year, is partnering with Heinz and Southern Restaurants for Racial Justice to offer funding through the Black Kitchen Initiative. Restaurant owners can apply now through September 15 for the chance to receive $20,000 grants from Heinz. Learn more at https://bit.ly/3AMOF1y

Good food for good®
About us
The James Beard Foundation’s mission is to celebrate, nurture, and honor chefs and other leaders making America's food culture more delicious, diverse, and sustainable for everyone. Food matters. You are what you eat not only because food is nutrition, but also because food is an integral part of our everyday lives. Food is economics, politics, entertainment, culture, fashion, family, passion...and nourishment. The James Beard Foundation is at the center of America's culinary community, dedicated to exploring the way food enriches our lives. A cookbook author and teacher, James Beard was a champion of American cuisine who helped educate and mentor generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts. Today the Beard Foundation continues in the same spirit by offering a variety of events and programs designed to educate, inspire, entertain, and foster a deeper understanding of our culinary culture. These programs include the Open For Good Campaign, Chef’s Bootcamp for Policy and Change, Beard House Fellows, Legacy Network, Scholarship Program, Smart Catch, and Women’s Leadership Programs. In addition to maintaining the historic James Beard House in New York City’s Greenwich Village as a “performance space” for visiting chefs, the Foundation has created a robust online community, and hosts conferences, tastings, lectures, workshops, and food-related art exhibits in New York City and around the country. The James Beard Foundation is a national not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in New York City.

“My mom always told me to think outside of the box, both in life in general and in cooking, and to have fun. This has become my life philosophy and guided my creation process. It always starts with ‘what if?’” Meet Masako Morishita, this year’s James Beard Award Winner® for Emerging Chef presented by S.Pellegrino® Sparkling Natural Mineral Water. Originally from Kobe, Japan, Morishita first came to the United States to join a professional cheerleading team, later discovering her passion for cooking as a vessel to share her culture with her community. Today, she proudly serves up her take on “Japanese comfort food with a modern twist” as executive chef at Perry's in Washington, D.C., while using her voice to help the next generation of chefs achieve their aspirations.
