Participants in the Targeted Development program had the chance to travel to Atlanta, Georgia, where they toured Chick-Fil-A and Coca-Cola facilities and engaged with professionals. During these interactions, they gained insights into the impactful initiatives each company is currently undertaking. The Maschhoffs extend their gratitude to Jeff Manley for facilitating these valuable connections! The Maschhoffs 2nd Annual Targeted Development Program is a one-year program for a select group of individuals. The purpose is to increase awareness of self-development opportunities, build individualized plans to drive development, shape network of professional mentors, improve leadership competencies, and increase perspective outside Swine Industry. The individuals particpate in a session quarterly consisting of both interactive classroom and fieldtrip components. They are surrounded by a support network comprised of various facilitators, mentors, peer groups, and participants’ leaders. By actively investing in the growth and advancement of talented individuals, we aim to create a supportive environment that recognizes and rewards their contributions. #TheMaschhoffs #MaschhoffsRelationships #MaschhoffsCommitment #BuildingCommunities

Wayne with Wayne! Interestingly, the featured Steel Cow print for this year, the striking Hampshire, holds a special significance—it's named after Wayne Maschhoff. Unveiled exclusively for this year's World Pork Expo, the third and final pig painting of the Steel Cow series, crafted by the talented Iowa artist Valerie Miller of Steel Cow. Wayne Maschhoff, now a vibrant 92-year-old and still active in agriculture, was one of the original members of the Moline 90. In May 1966, Wayne and 89 of his colleagues gathered in Moline, IL, to develop strategies for advancing the pork industry, a historic meeting that became known as the Moline 90. Wayne was honored as the Illinois Pork All American in 1971 and named Illinois Master Farmer in 1975.

Paul and his wife have been married for 22 years and have two boys. He spends most of his free time coaching his kids' sports or watching them play. They are often found on a baseball field or in a gym. Paul co-owns an indoor sports training facility in which has been an enjoyable side project, and they proudly showcase it whenever they can. Paul has been with the Maschhoff’s for nearly 12 years. He was hired in 2012 to lead the Animal Housing Purchasing group, which has since evolved into the Procurement and Origination team. This team now serves as a one-stop shop for all the company’s buying needs, including feed ingredients, barn supplies, veterinary needs, energy risk management, passenger fleet vehicles, and more. Paul takes immense pride in his role in constructing successful teams, ensuring they thrive professionally and achieve personal milestones. Fostering an environment where team members not only excel but also derive genuine satisfaction from their work is a top priority for him, and the results speak for themselves. As he highlights, the Purchasing team boasting an average tenure of over 8 years is a testament to their collective accomplishment. Upon joining The Maschhoffs 12 years ago, Paul swiftly embraced the unique culture characterized by a balance of freedom and accountability in decision-making—a departure from his previous corporate experience. This trust and empowerment from leadership continue to invigorate him. His advice for newcomers echoes the ethos of empowerment: seize the freedom to act decisively, learn from mistakes, and actively seek guidance when needed, fostering a culture of collaboration and growth. Paul is convinced that The Maschhoffs embodies its Culture of Caring, evident in strengthened relationships, expanded community engagement, and increased recognition both internally and externally. He acknowledges that sustaining such a culture demands concerted effort from all levels of the organization, and he takes pride in contributing to its realization.

Lauren grew up as the fourth generation on her family's farm in Cottleville, MO, where they raised beef cattle, operated a farrow-to-finish hog operation, and cultivated corn and soybeans. Much of her ag knowledge stems from her upbringing and hands-on experience at her family's John Deere dealership in Moscow Mills, MO. While attending the University of Missouri – Columbia, Lauren met her husband, Matt. Despite initial hesitation due to height differences, they eventually became a couple and tied the knot in November 2014. Matt, who manages their trucking business while preserving his family farm's legacy, shares Lauren's commitment to hard work. They now reside on the Meyer family farm as the fifth generation, blessed with two children. Lauren prioritizes exercise for mental stability and enjoys photography as a hobby.   As a farming family, they relish outdoor activities, spending warmer months playing outside, attending t-ball or soccer games/practices, and tending to their flowers and garden. Lauren aspires to visit all 50 states and particularly enjoys exploring National Parks, such as Crater Lake and the Redwoods.   Professionally, Lauren joined The Maschhoffs 13 years ago. Her roles have evolved over the years, transitioning from Production Logistics Associate to Transport Logistics Manager, Supply Chain Manager and currently serving as Inventory Logistics Manager. She represented The Maschhoffs at the 2019 Women in Agribusiness Summit, where she connected with peers and found inspiration in a supportive environment that celebrated diversity and empowerment.   Embracing change and growth, Lauren values the culture at The Maschhoffs, where colleagues are eager to help and share knowledge. She encourages curiosity, questioning, and taking ownership of personal development. Lauren finds pride in being part of a team dedicated to collective success and continuous improvement, fostering an environment she is honored to contribute to.

Each year, since 2011, The Maschhoffs recognize an employee who displays the company core values through key business decisions and leadership actions. The Core Values award is a prestigious honor that recognizes the outstanding commitment of a single individual. This year’s winner is Paul Ayers, Animal Care Manager. The below set of values serve as an authentic reflection of the company culture. 1. Relationship: Our employees and partners are foundational to our family, business, and we are committed to their safety and success. 2. Stewardship: We believe in the preservation of the family farm and our natural resources, and care deeply about our animals and the environment. 3. Service: We strive to exceed customer expectations and positively impact our communities. 4. Progress: We will improve daily through our dedication to building and implementing knowledge while operating with a disciplined approach. Paul has exhibited exceptional dedication and involvement in various aspects of the GAPSY business initiative over the past year, working tirelessly to update work instructions, facilitate training rollouts, improve processes for audits and corrective actions, and implement a new Change Management approval process. Despite his primary role, Paul contributed significantly to the update and launch of the Purpose and Impact report, showcasing the company's sustainability efforts. The commitment to excellence extends beyond GAPSY, as he has consistently upheld the highest standards in animal care and welfare, ensuring the company meets targets and maintains external certifications. Paul has not only shared these standards within the company but has also contributed to improving the entire industry. He served on the National Pork Board Task Force to develop and maintain the Common Swine Industry Audit. Additionally, he helped prepare the system for foreign animal disease by supporting processes for US SHIP and Secure Pork Supply program participation, as well as animal movement tracking information with NC State’s RabApp program. Paul’s willingness to take on diverse roles, embrace new challenges, and foster relationships across departments highlights his exemplary leadership qualities. Outside of work, he still takes time for family, gardening, getting outside to run or cycle and hit the ski slopes – when PTO allows. Don’t ever hesitate to grab a cup of good coffee, fine wine, and cook something with Paul.

Meet Joel, who, alongside his wife Elizabeth, celebrates 35 years of marriage and raises four grown sons, two of whom are married. Their eldest, along with his spouse, recently relocated to Kansas City, MO, after moving from Dubai just last month, bringing along their two sons, aged 5 and 2. Their second son and his wife reside in Topeka, KS, both working as surgical nurses, having forged a friendship while working together in a UAE hospital. Joel stands out as the sole employee who has worked across three continents – Asia, Europe, and North America. Joel's journey with The Maschhoffs began in February 2022 when he joined as the Associate Director of Production in Great Plains. Pioneering the People Development program within Great Plains fills Joel with pride. He introduced GROW (Getting Ready for Opportunities at Work) for Animal Caregivers showing leadership potential, LEAD (Leaders in Excellence, Accountability & Development) tailored for current Team Leads, and ACHIEVE (Amplifying Competence in Harnessing Innovation, Empowerment, Values & Excellence) for Farm Managers. For Joel, personal and professional growth intertwine through proactive participation in training and leadership programs, adapting to various leadership styles to empower his team. "I derive immense satisfaction from witnessing our team evolve into better leaders. True leadership lies in fostering more leaders," reflects Joel. His advice to new hires is to remain open to change, embracing innovative paradigms, and learning from them, recognizing the diversity of systems and approaches. Drawing from Jeff Stevens' insights in "The Heart of Business," Joel emphasizes the danger of prioritizing profit over a higher purpose within an organization. He advocates for leading with a greater mission, exemplified by The Maschhoffs' commitment to "Feeding Families and Building Communities," fostering a sense of collective purpose beyond individual gains.
